Chapter 35: The Second Soul Ring – Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger
🕑 Added 2024-10-03 05:10:25 +0000 UTCAfter his son made the decision, Yang Zhentian finally breathed a sigh of relief. His son's second soul ring was finally settled.
"Son, stay here and be careful. This Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger is extremely dangerous. I'll handle it now."
With that, Yang Zhentian summoned the Breaking Soul Spear into his hand. Seven soul rings lit up around him as he quickly charged toward the Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger, thrusting his spear at it.
However, to his surprise, his fierce attack missed. The Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger vanished and reappeared several dozen meters away.
The tiger roared and lunged at Yang Zhentian. As it pounced, it suddenly flashed and appeared next to him, swiping at him with a massive paw.
Yang Zhentian raised his spear to block, but the force pushed him back slightly. Truly worthy of being a top-tier soul beast, its combat power was terrifying. Yang Zhentian, a high-level Soul Saint who could easily kill ten-thousand-year soul beasts, was pushed back by this tiger, which hadn't even reached a thousand years.
Annoyed that a Soul Saint like him couldn't kill a tiger under a thousand years old in one hit and was even counterattacked, Yang Zhentian quickly thrust his spear again. The Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger, realizing the danger, roared and used all its strength to block, but it was still wounded. A large gash appeared on its back, and blood flowed freely.
But Yang Zhentian didn't care about the tiger's injury. His earlier attack could have killed it if he hadn't been careful to avoid doing so. The tiger would have been impaled otherwise.
As the Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger tried to teleport again, Yang Zhentian swiftly threw his Breaking Soul Spear into the air. The spear flew directly toward the tiger, piercing through its body and pinning it to the ground.
The Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger lay there, dying and bleeding profusely, with no chance of survival.
"Son, it's done. Come over and finish off the Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger yourself."
Upon hearing this, Yang Podi quickly moved to his father's side. He used his own Breaking Soul Spear to stab through the tiger's eye, killing it instantly. Immediately, a yellow soul ring appeared above its corpse.
Yang Zhentian looked at his son with some concern. "Son, are you sure? This soul ring is close to a thousand years old, far exceeding the limit of what most soul masters can absorb."
"Don't worry, Dad. You know how strong my body is. I should be able to handle it."
Under his father's watchful gaze, Yang Podi sat down next to the Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger's corpse and began to absorb its soul ring.
As with the first soul ring, this process was extremely painful. His entire body felt as if it were on fire, and a massive amount of soul power poured into every cell of his body, but Yang Podi quietly endured it.
The absorption process took a full three hours. When it was finally over, Yang Podi felt his body surge with strength. His Breaking Soul Spear now had two yellow soul rings, and in his mind, an image of a giant wielding the spear appeared, its body seemingly stronger than before.
After the absorption was complete, Yang Podi summoned his Breaking Soul Spear. It felt noticeably heavier, the spear's weight now over 300 jin (about 150 kg), and Yang Podi's physical strength had also increased significantly.
Looking at his spear, Yang Podi couldn't help but think of Tang San's Clear Sky Hammer. During the Soul Master Tournament, Tang San was only at the Soul Elder level, but even without adding any soul rings to his Clear Sky Hammer, its weight had already reached 500 jin (about 250 kg), making it one of the heaviest martial souls.
Seeing that his son had finished absorbing the soul ring, Yang Zhentian couldn't help but ask, "Son, how's the soul ring? What kind of soul skill did you get?"
"Let me show you, Dad."
Yang Podi stood up and summoned his Breaking Soul Spear. The two yellow soul rings appeared beneath him, and the second ring began to glow. He raised his spear and thrust it forward with great force. In an instant, he appeared about 20 meters away, right next to a large tree. The tree, over a meter in diameter, was instantly pierced through.
"Son, this soul skill is excellent! What exactly does it do?"
"Dad, this skill is called Demon Tiger Annihilation Strike. I can teleport next to an enemy and attack them. When I use this skill, both the weight and the attack power of my spear increase by 50%. It consumes about 10% of my soul power each time."
"As my soul power grows, the consumption should decrease. Right now, the teleportation distance is at most 30 meters, and the range depends on how much soul power I use. In the future, I should be able to teleport farther, though probably not by too much."
Hearing his son's explanation, Yang Zhentian was thrilled. "Son, this soul skill is incredible. Even I'm envious. It's probably better than many people's thousand-year soul skills, and it's extremely practical."
"Son, what's your current soul power level?"
"Dad, I'm at level 22 now."
"Good job, son. You've done well."
Yang Podi suddenly thought of something. "Dad, how did you figure out where the Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger would appear after teleporting?"
Yang Zhentian couldn't help but smile. "Son, are you worried that someone might figure out your soul skill?"
"You don't need to worry about that, at least not for now."
"Son, remember this: any teleportation-based soul skill causes a fluctuation in soul power during the process, both from the user and in the surrounding air. Especially at the moment of reappearing, there's a noticeable soul power fluctuation. Right now, you can't sense it, but soul masters only start to detect these fluctuations after reaching the Soul Saint level, or if they have exceptionally strong spiritual power."
"Soul Saint-level soul masters experience a qualitative leap in their spiritual power. You won't encounter opponents of that level for a while."
"As your strength grows, your control over soul power will also improve, meaning the fluctuation in soul power during teleportation will become smaller and smaller. So, you don't need to worry about your skill being seen through."
"That's why teleportation-based skills are called godlike skills. They don't consume much soul power but are incredibly hard to defend against."
After discussing for a while longer, the two prepared to leave.
Of course, they carefully dissected the Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger, but to Yang Podi's disappointment, they didn't find any soul bones. He couldn't help but feel a bit frustrated: when Tang San absorbed soul rings above his level, he got an Eight Spider Lances soul bone, but even after doing it twice, Yang Podi hadn't gotten anything.
