Chapter 53: Spear Technique
🕑 Added 2024-10-17 22:00:35 +0000 UTCOver the next few days, while Yang Podi studied alchemy in the alchemy room each afternoon, he didn't read much. Instead, he spent the time practicing with his Crocodile King Spear. His mother had thoughtfully prepared a special pair of pants for him, with a small hole at the back. The hole was layered in such a way that whether the spear was retracted or extended, it was convenient and without any risk of exposure.
As Yang Podi continued to practice, he found himself becoming more adept with the Crocodile King Spear, as if it had become an extension of his arm.
Meanwhile, his two grandfathers finally put together a training method for Divided Attention Control. Though it looked simple, it proved to be quite tricky to execute. Yang Podi couldn't help but think of the technique from Legend of the Condor Heroes, where Guo Jing learned Left-Right Mutual Combat from Zhou Botong, which seemed to have some relevance.
Yang Podi picked up two pens and attempted to draw circles with one hand and squares with the other on paper. Initially, the paper was a mess, with circles that were more oval and squares that were all wobbly. But perhaps due to the fantasy nature of this world, when he focused intensely, his mind became exceptionally clear, and his soul power within remained steady. Within a few days, he managed to draw circles with one hand and squares with the other.
Following this, he tried to perform different actions with each hand, drawing different shapes, with increasing skill.
After a month of intense training, he could now multitask with relative ease. Though he wasn't aiming to control seven tasks at once like a control-type soul master, he still appreciated the skill. It wasn't necessary to his path, but it was a useful exercise.
Through this month's training, Yang Podi gained basic mastery of the Crocodile King Spear. While he hadn't completely integrated it into his body, he could perform simple attacks with it. Full mastery would require more time and the complete integration of the Crocodile King soul bone into his body. He realized that, like Tang San, external pressure might be necessary for full mastery.
Yang Podi couldn't help but admire the wisdom found in his previous world. Whether in spear techniques or Left-Right Mutual Combat, the creativity and accumulated knowledge were impressive. Though a mundane world, its ideas were no less profound than those in the fantastical world of Douluo Dalu, perhaps even surpassing it in some ways.
After three years of diligent training, Yang Podi had essentially created his own spear technique, heavily inspired by famous spear techniques from his past life. Even without using soul skills, he could hold his own in battle.
By now, his Breaking Soul Spear weighed around 600 pounds, surpassing even Tang San's Clear Sky Hammer during the Soul Master Tournament. Though the spear was significantly heavier, it had also grown sharper, possibly due to the Nine-Leaf Sword Grass and Golden Crocodile soul ring effects.
In terms of technique, he often sparred with Yang Ping'an, quickly gaining the upper hand. Occasionally, he wondered whether to challenge his father to a sparring match to further improve his skills.
After making the suggestion, his father, Yang Zhentian, surprisingly showed great interest, quickly dragging Yang Podi to the training field as if afraid he would change his mind.
At the training field, the rest of the family showed up to watch, including his grandfathers and his younger sister, Yang Tianyue, who was especially excited.
Yang Podi selected a 600-pound Breaking Soul Spear similar in size to his martial soul, measuring about 3 meters in length with an 80-centimeter blade. His father wielded a lighter, 200-pound spear.
When the duel began, Yang Podi took the initiative, thrusting his spear forward. His father, Yang Zhentian, countered with a thrust of his own spear. The two spear tips collided, causing his father's weapon to tremble slightly.
Yang Podi followed up by pivoting on his feet, rotating his body 90 degrees, and stepping into a right lunge. His right hand slid the shaft back, holding the spear steady for a forward thrust, executing a technique he called "Calm Heart Thrust."
Yang Zhentian reacted swiftly, using his spear to block the attack but taking a small step back in the process.
Taking advantage, Yang Podi launched into another technique, "White Crane Spreads Wings," a series of fluid, controlled movements. His father countered with a "Break" technique, and the two spears collided again, forcing them both back.
Yang Podi continued with a series of techniques, including "Sweeping Through Thousands," "The Overlord Raises the Cauldron," "Direct Strike to the Heart," "Immortal Points the Way," and "Pulling Up Mountains." These nine techniques highlighted the weight and sharpness of the Breaking Soul Spear.
The spar lasted for a full hour, with Yang Podi eventually stopping, drenched in sweat from the exertion.
Afterwards, his grandfather Yang Wudi praised him, "Podi, did you create this spear technique?"
"Grandfather, I mainly pieced it together from books and my own training. This duel has helped me refine it even further."
The family looked on in awe, especially at the talent displayed by a child under twelve years old.
Yang Podi himself felt satisfied, understanding where his techniques could be improved. He hadn't even used his soul power, spear intent, or soul skills, which would have elevated his power further.
