Chapter 51: What Luck Is This?
🕑 Added 2024-10-17 21:59:22 +0000 UTCAfter Yang Podi finished absorbing the soul ring, he felt a strange sensation in his body, particularly around his lower back. Suddenly, a strange, rigid protrusion emerged, two meters in length, ripping through his pants as it extended like a tail, leaving deep marks in the ground as it swayed.
Seeing this, Yang Podi was bewildered. "What on earth is this? It looks pretty terrifying. Could it be the tail of that Golden Crocodile King we just defeated?"
His father, Yang Zhentian, also stood in shock at the sight of his son suddenly growing a tail. After a moment of thought, he said, "Son, stay calm. Focus on your soul power and try to control it as if it were one of your limbs. See if you can retract it."
Yang Podi took a deep breath, concentrated, and began channeling his soul power into the tail. Gradually, the tail calmed down, retracting back into his body and disappearing entirely. Relieved but embarrassed, Yang Podi quickly retrieved a new pair of pants from his storage soul tool and put them on.
"Father, could this be an external soul bone?"
Yang Zhentian nodded. "You're incredibly lucky. This tail seems to be an external soul bone from the Golden Crocodile King. External soul bones are very rare treasures in the soul master world, second only to 100,000-year soul rings and soul bones. You should keep this secret to avoid attracting unwanted attention."
Despite the extraordinary gain, Yang Podi seemed discontent. "Father, why did it have to be a tail? It feels a bit ridiculous. Do I have to rip my pants every time I use it?"
Yang Zhentian, holding back laughter, replied, "Let's not worry too much about that now. We can work on finding a way to manage it once we get back. This external tail soul bone is bound to be incredibly useful."
With a heavy sigh, Yang Podi stored the Golden Crocodile King's body and the severed arm of the Earth Demon Bear. The prospect of obtaining a soul skill didn't even cross his mind as he thought about this peculiar tail.
As they prepared to return home, Yang Podi couldn't help but vent, "Other people get impressive abilities like the Eight Spider Lances or even golden wings, but I get... a tail. Where's the dignity in that?"
He looked over at his father, a bit resentfully. "Father, was that Golden Crocodile King truly so formidable? Even with your advanced soul techniques, you seemed to have a hard time subduing it."
Yang Zhentian replied, "This was my first time encountering a Golden Crocodile King. Its defenses are incredibly strong. I hadn't expected it to be this tough; even my highest-level attacks could barely penetrate it."
Yang Podi just rolled his eyes at him. "You're a Soul Douluo, and yet, you struggled to finish off a 4,000-year soul beast. Isn't that a bit disappointing?"
Zhentian ignored the comment and asked, "So, what is your third soul skill?"
"The skill is impressive. It doubles my strength, weight, attack power, and grants me increased piercing ability. It consumes 20% of my soul energy and lasts for about half an hour. I named it 'Golden Force.'"
Yang Zhentian took a moment before responding, "Your enhancement is likely due to the Golden Crocodile King's natural attributes. Its soul enhances both the power and sharpness of your spear, which could explain the sudden leap in your capabilities."
Yang Podi nodded, realizing that this soul ring was even more valuable than he initially thought. Then his father inquired, "But why did you bother to take the Earth Demon Bear's arm and the Golden Crocodile King's body?"
"I thought their meat could make for a good meal. And, who knows, we might find a soul bone," Yang Podi replied.
Yang Zhentian laughed. "A single soul beast can only produce one soul bone. This bear wasn't even dead yet, so its arm won't contain one. But bear paw is delicious—let's take it back for Tianyue to enjoy."
Upon hearing this, Yang Podi, feeling a bit indignant, pulled out the Earth Demon Bear's arm and began dissecting it on the spot. To his surprise, inside was a glittering soul bone, a claw bone, which appeared to be another external soul bone.
Both father and son stared in disbelief. Yang Podi finally broke the silence, "Father, did we check the almanac today? Are we blessed with extraordinary luck?"
His father, equally astonished, replied, "Son, I was just about to ask the same thing. Two external soul bones in a single trip—what luck!"
Yang Podi quickly said, "Father, I've recently been practicing claw techniques. I think this Earth Demon Bear's claw suits me well, don't you think?"
Zhentian shook his head. "Son, you've always trained with the Breaking Soul Spear. Since you've already got the tail, it's better to save this claw for your sister, so she has a means to defend herself."
After a bit of bargaining, they agreed that Yang Zhentian would keep the claw bone, while Yang Podi took two precious herbs from his father's private stash as compensation.
Yang Podi, though slightly frustrated, accepted the outcome. He didn't expect much from the bear's claw anyway. It had barely lasted against the Golden Crocodile King, so it probably wasn't exceptionally powerful. Besides, having two external soul bones did sound a bit excessive.
With their prizes secured, they set off, each content in their own way.
