Chapter 49: Re-entering the Sunset
🕑 Added 2024-10-12 20:51:21 +0000 UTCThis time entering the Sunset Forest was much easier than before. After all, Yang Zhentian was already a Soul Douluo, and Yang Podi's soul power had also improved considerably.
However, one still had to be cautious in a large soul beast forest like the Sunset Forest.
The two of them roamed the central area of the Sunset Forest for a full seven days without finding a suitable soul beast. Either the soul beasts they encountered were not of the right age, or they were too weak and didn't meet their standards. The most fitting one they found was a 2,000-year-old Armored Bear soul beast, but Yang Podi felt that its age was too low.
As for the Iron Feather Tiger Eagle that Yang Podi had been hoping for, he hadn't even caught a glimpse of it, not to mention any ordinary eagles.
That evening, feeling somewhat impatient, Yang Podi finally spoke up, "Dad, it's hard to find a suitable soul beast. How about we go to the Star Dou Forest? I heard there are more soul beasts there."
"You silly child, there are plenty of soul beasts in the Sunset Forest. We actually encountered many good ones in the past few days, but you just didn't like any of them. Like that 3,000-year-old Ghost Tiger we just saw—many people would consider that a top choice even for their fourth soul ring, but you dismissed it."
"Well, there really haven't been any exceptional ones. If it were a 3,000-year-old Dark Gold Dreadclaw Bear, I would take it right away."
"A Dark Gold Dreadclaw Bear? Have you even seen one before? Even I haven't seen one, so stop daydreaming."
"If not a Dark Gold Dreadclaw Bear, then a Titan Giant Ape would work too."
Hearing that, Yang Zhentian was speechless for a moment. "Do you know what level the Titan Giant Ape is? It's said that a ten-thousand-year Titan Giant Ape can even fight a 100,000-year soul beast. It's practically a legendary beast."
"In my memory, only Tang Hao has a soul ring from a Titan Giant Ape. I doubt anyone else has even seen one."
"I remember hearing there's a 100,000-year Titan Giant Ape in the Star Dou Forest. Why hasn't anyone tried to hunt it?"
"Son, do you know how powerful that Titan Giant Ape is? Ordinary Title Douluos can't even match it. You'd probably need a Title Douluo at level 96 to stand a chance, and even then, it would be risky. The Star Dou Forest is full of danger for injured Title Douluos. Besides, that Titan Giant Ape has an even stronger companion, the Sky Azure Bull Python. Who would dare to hunt it?"
"To hunt a Titan Giant Ape, you'd need at least four Title Douluos, and they can't be low-level ones either. Even if you managed to kill it, absorbing its soul ring would be risky since its death would attract countless other soul beasts. A Titan Giant Ape's body would be a feast for other beasts. Where would you find so many Title Douluos? Not even the top three sects could afford to lose them."
"Dad, let me ask you something. You, along with both of my uncles, are at level 86, and Grandpa is at level 87. Have you thought about your ninth soul ring?"
Hearing this, Yang Zhentian fell silent. "My ninth soul ring is indeed a tough issue. We'll probably go to the Star Dou Forest to look for an 80,000-year-old soul beast. If it's too old, it will be difficult for us to handle. We might ask your grandfather for help, and the patriarchs of the single-attribute families might come too, but they're not as strong as they once were. We'll likely have Senior Dugu help as well."
"Dad, my grandfather is close to becoming a Title Douluo too, right?"
"That's right. Your grandfather will probably reach it before your other grandfather, perhaps within a year, as he's already two levels ahead. The items you picked out were perfect for him."
"We obtained so many immortal herbs from the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. Are there any that can increase the age of soul beasts?"
"You little rascal. Do you even know what you're talking about? Using such rare immortal herbs on a soul beast is wasteful. Even the best herbs would only increase a soul beast's age by a few thousand years, and the cost is far too high."
"Son, don't worry too much. Your grandfathers have their own plans, and I'm sure they've thought about all this."
After hearing that, Yang Podi was quiet for a moment. "Dad, I read in some ancient texts that Ten Thousand Year Cold Marrow could greatly increase a soul beast's age."
Yang Zhentian chuckled, giving his son a light tap on the head. "What are you thinking? Ten Thousand Year Cold Marrow is an extremely rare treasure. If it appeared, all the major forces would scramble for it. Soul Saints and Soul Douluos could reach new levels with it. I haven't heard of Ten Thousand Year Cold Marrow appearing for centuries."
"Son, you usually have good instincts. Have you felt where a suitable soul beast might be this time?"
"I think the Titan Giant Ape in the Star Dou Forest would be perfect for me, though its age is a bit high."
They both laughed at that.
They rested for the night, and the next day continued their search.
The following day, they stayed near a small stream, hiding in the nearby bushes and waiting to see if any suitable soul beasts came to drink.
Throughout the day, many soul beasts did come, and some of them were quite decent. They even saw a 4,000-year-old Power Gorilla, but they decided it was still a bit weak for their needs.
That evening, Yang Zhentian sensed that his son was growing impatient. "Son, are you in a hurry? Remember, finding the right soul ring isn't easy. There are age and type restrictions, so it's hard to find the perfect one. Sometimes soul masters stay in the forest for months waiting for the right soul beast."
"Your standards are quite high, though. Today, we saw a few that were pretty good, especially that Power Gorilla. Its strength and age were excellent, even for a fourth soul ring."
"Dad, I'm not really impatient. I just feel unsatisfied. How have we not encountered any top-notch soul beasts?"
Yang Zhentian chuckled. "Son, top-notch soul beasts don't just show up. We've already encountered a couple of rare dragon-type beasts, but either they were too old or too young for you."
