Chapter 34: Entering the Sunset Forest
🕑 Added 2024-10-03 05:09:37 +0000 UTCWhen Yang Podi heard that Dugu Bo had brought his son for treatment, his eyes lit up.
Yang Podi knew that his opportunity had arrived, and so had the opportunity for the Breaking Clan. It was clear that Dugu Bo had not yet taken control of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well; otherwise, he would have already broken through to become a titled Douluo, and his son wouldn't still be in need of treatment.
Based on the original storyline, Dugu Bo's son, Dugu Xin, should have died before Dugu Bo obtained the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. Therefore, at this moment, the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well was ownerless.
This trip to the Sunset Forest to hunt for soul rings would be the best chance, and possibly the last one.
Early the next morning, Yang Zhentian set out with his son.
As usual, they traveled by carriage to the Sunset Forest. On the ride, Yang Zhentian was the first to speak: "Son, what kind of soul beast are you looking for this time? How old should the soul ring be?"
Yang Podi thought for a moment: "Dad, I still want a power-type soul ring. If it comes with some special power-based abilities, that would be even better. As for the age, it should be over 900 years but not exceed 1,000 years."
Yang Zhentian became interested: "Son, why did you choose this?"
"I've always planned to follow a pure strength path. If there are some good skills to complement that, I'm open to it. Regarding the soul ring's age, I'm not sure I can handle a thousand-year soul ring yet, and a thousand-year second soul ring would draw too much attention. The Breaking Clan isn't that strong yet."
Every soul ring should enhance the body, especially for someone like Yang Podi, who has a full-body martial soul. However, early soul rings, particularly the first one, provide limited physical enhancement.
In later generations, for those with body martial souls, the first and second rings were not much different from those of regular soul masters. It was only through surpassing the limits with each ring that their bodies became powerful in the end. Even the Poison Douluo, though he achieved a ten-thousand-year seventh ring, had two yellow and two purple rings for the first four.
Thus, Yang Podi hadn't decided to absorb a thousand-year second ring. Besides, a thousand-year second ring would be too conspicuous, likely attracting many covetous eyes.
Anyone would want their clan or descendants to become stronger, especially those ancient sects that have existed for thousands of years. If he truly had a thousand-year second ring, the top three sects might immediately send people to inquire. After all, everyone knew that the higher the age of a soul ring, the more it boosted physical strength.
As for a ten-thousand-year fourth ring, that would need to be reconsidered later. He had no method to resist the mental shock that comes with such a ring, unlike Tang San, who had the Purple Demon Eyes technique.
After hearing his son's words, Yang Zhentian couldn't help but nod: "Son, you've grown a lot."
Two hours later, the two arrived at the edge of the Sunset Forest. After storing the carriage, they didn't linger around the perimeter but went straight into the forest.
Once again entering the hunting forest, Yang Podi felt the strong, natural aura, which was especially refreshing.
After entering the new forest, Yang Zhentian became more cautious. He held onto his son, ensuring that Yang Podi didn't stray from him. Whether it was a path, trees, or a clearing, Yang Zhentian made sure he walked ahead before allowing his son to follow.
If they encountered marshes, dense forests, or small streams, Yang Zhentian would directly carry his son to prevent any accidents, leaving Yang Podi speechless. Was his father being too careful?
But when Yang Podi saw a very small snake, he understood his father's caution. The snake was extremely small, less than a centimeter in diameter and half a meter long, but it moved very quickly and was clearly venomous.
Luckily, his father reacted quickly, or things could have been dangerous.
For three days and nights, they searched the Sunset Forest but still couldn't find a soul beast that satisfied Yang Podi.
Either the age wasn't right, or the attributes didn't match. Yang Podi was particularly looking for a strength-type soul beast with special attributes, which made it even harder to find.
Of course, they encountered many good ones. They even found a seven-hundred-year-old Thousand Jin Ant, which Yang Podi immediately rejected. After all, he was a transmigrator; he couldn't have every soul ring be from a Thousand Jin Ant. That would be too humiliating.
They also encountered some bear-type soul beasts, some of which were over 800 years old. Still, Yang Podi rejected them. He was determined to find a top-notch soul beast, at least one of excellent quality.
That night, while they were resting, Yang Zhentian suddenly seemed to sense something. He jumped up from where he had been sitting and pulled his son up as well.
Yang Podi faintly heard a tiger's roar, though it wasn't clear.
"Son, this time we might have found a really good soul beast, but we'll have to see if the age suits you."
"Dad, what kind of soul beast is it?"
"Judging by the sound just now, it should be a tiger. Let's go take a look together."
In the Sunset Forest, Yang Zhentian wouldn't dare leave his son alone while he went off to find a soul beast, especially at night, when all kinds of dangers could arise.
He grabbed his son's hand and quickly led him forward. After walking about half a kilometer, they saw a tiger.
The tiger was over four meters long, nearly five. Its entire body wasn't the usual white or yellow, but black with a hint of blue. There was a large "王" (king) symbol on its forehead, giving it a majestic and imposing appearance, worthy of being called the king of the forest.
"Son, this is a Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger. It's one of the finest among tiger-type soul beasts, no weaker than a White Tiger and possibly even stronger."
"Most tigers are active during the day, but the Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger prefers the night. Besides its incredible strength, it also has some dark attributes. What's most impressive is that some soul masters who obtain a Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger soul ring gain teleportation-like abilities. The Zhu family of the Star Luo Empire, whose martial soul is the Hell Spirit Cat, loves the Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger, but they are very rare. I heard that the Zhu family even offered a bounty for one. What do you think of this Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger?"
"Teleportation? How is that possible? Isn't teleportation a skill of agility-type or special soul beasts?"
"I don't know for sure, just heard about it. But it seems the Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger is related to the Dark Devilgod Tiger, the overlord of the Star Dou Forest, though I'm not sure if that's true."
"Also, this Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger is over 900 years old, very close to 1,000."
After some thought and analysis, Yang Podi made up his mind: "Dad, I'll take this Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger. I think it'll suit me well."
