Chapter 30: Knowledge of Alchemy
🕑 Added 2024-10-03 05:06:59 +0000 UTCSince obtaining his first soul ring, Yang Podi's daily learning routine had changed.
Every morning, he continued to practice his marksmanship, attended class at the elementary school in the morning, and then added an hour of alchemy knowledge learning in the afternoon, which was personally taught by his grandfather, Yang Wudi.
After completing the lessons, he would then engage in weighted mountain climbing. Exhausted from climbing, he would take a medicinal bath, and then spend the evening meditating.
Today marked his first session of alchemy knowledge learning.
After lunch, Yang Wudi took his grandson to the alchemy room.
The alchemy room was built in his grandfather's small courtyard, in a relatively large basement. The reason it was in the basement was to ensure quietness and prevent outside disturbances.
The alchemy room was spacious, with various shelves lining the walls, filled with all sorts of bottles and jars containing various herbs.
Yang Podi carefully observed the shelves; the collection of herbs was quite comprehensive. There were ordinary Blue Silver Grasses, as well as many expensive millennium-grade herbs, including ginseng, poria, angelica, and even the blood and internal organs of several soul beasts. Of course, there were many types of snake venom, including the venom of the Jade Phosphor Serpent. There were also very few ten-thousand-year herbs, though their quantities were limited.
In the center of the alchemy room stood a large medicinal cauldron, or rather, an alchemical furnace.
When Yang Podi first entered the alchemy room, it felt as if he had stepped into a world of herbs.
This time, Yang Wudi did not immediately start the alchemical processes but began by explaining some foundational knowledge of alchemy.
"Podi, our Breaking Clan is a family with a long-standing alchemical tradition. There is no family in the entire Douluo Continent that is more familiar with alchemy than us."
"The knowledge you learn in the elementary school every morning is relatively basic. This type of knowledge can be found in many prominent families outside."
"But what I am going to teach you now is the inherited knowledge. The entire Breaking Clan is only familiar with this knowledge through me, your second grandfather Yang Wushuang, and your father Yang Zhentian. Of course, this includes some secret medicines of our clan. The other elders have only learned a portion."
"However, some secret medicines are very dangerous, and you cannot learn those for now. Your current task is to read books and familiarize yourself with all the herbs and their properties."
"For the sake of family knowledge confidentiality, from now on, you will come here every afternoon to read. If you encounter anything you don't understand, you can ask me. On that shelf behind you, there are most of the herbs in the Douluo Continent. You can compare and learn, but it's best not to touch the toxic herbs for now. Once you truly engage in alchemy, I will teach you how to use and handle them."
After saying this, Yang Wudi took out several ancient-looking books from his soul guide, which should have been compiled and passed down through countless generations.
Yang Podi carefully examined these books, which included: Complete Guide to Immortal Herbs in Douluo Continent, Complete Guide to Poisonous Herbs in Douluo Continent, Complete Guide to Serpents in Douluo Continent, Complete Guide to Spiders in Douluo Continent, Complete Guide to Rare and Exotic Plants in Douluo Continent, Complete Guide to Soul Beasts in Douluo Continent, Complete Guide to Poison Attribute Martial Souls in Douluo Continent, Breaking Clan's Medicinal Recipes, and Breaking Clan's Medicinal Baths.
It could be said that the books recorded everything related to medicine or poison in the Douluo Continent.
Yang Podi first picked up the book he had longed to read the most, "Complete Guide to Immortal Herbs in Douluo Continent". Opening the first page, he saw a pale pink flower, which was the Aromatic Silk Beauty Immortal Herb. The page contained not only the effects of the Aromatic Silk Beauty Immortal Herb but also its growth environment, harvesting methods, and preservation techniques.
After carefully noting the information, he turned to the second page, which showed a large white flower resembling a peony, known as the Immortal Grade Weeping Love Flower.
As he continued flipping through the pages, more and more immortal herbs were displayed. In addition to the ones mentioned by Tang San for the Shrek Six, there were many other immortal herbs, each with bizarre properties.
Among all the immortal herbs, the one that caught Yang Podi's eye the most was the Nine Leaf Sword Grass. The Nine Leaf Sword Grass could enhance a soul master's metal attribute, making it a divine product for sword-type martial souls. If used by a soul master with the Breaking Soul Spear, it would greatly increase the sharpness of the gun and could even allow the soul master to manifest gun energy or a sword-like attack. There was also a certain probability that it could evolve into the ultimate golden attribute.
"Grandpa, the Nine Leaf Sword Grass seems to be perfect for our Breaking Clan."
"Podi, you have a good eye. The Nine Leaf Sword Grass is indeed the most suitable immortal herb for our Breaking Soul Spear martial soul. Unfortunately, it hasn't been found for countless years. It's said that the founder of the Seven Killing Sword Technique once consumed the Nine Leaf Sword Grass, ultimately reaching level 98 soul power. It's a pity that the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile School has searched for most of their lives without success."
Upon hearing this, Yang Podi thought to himself: I wonder if the Ice and Fire Yang can yield Nine Leaf Sword Grass. I hope so!
After an hour, Yang Podi reluctantly left the alchemy room. The knowledge of alchemy was indeed vast and profound, which explained why generations of the Breaking Clan had been obsessed with it.
At this moment, Yang Podi suddenly thought of a question: Since I have a martial soul that is my own body, if I learn alchemy, could the toxins actually stimulate the growth and awakening of my second martial soul? I wonder if I can cultivate an invulnerable body like the protagonist in the original story.
However, everything is still uncertain. Until I am more confident, I do not plan to practice alchemy myself. No matter how beautiful the world of alchemy may be, this is still the Douluo Continent, where soul power is fundamental; otherwise, I wouldn't even have the strength to protect myself.
Otherwise, in the original story, the Breaking Clan would not have become Tang Men's apothecary, thereby gaining an unexpected father figure. If I had sufficient strength, why would I need to rely on Tang San? Wouldn't it be more satisfying to establish my own sect?
Of course, besides learning alchemy, Yang Podi quietly added another aspect to his training. Every morning while practicing his spearmanship, in addition to the Breaking Soul Spear Technique, he would start trying to learn some spearmanship techniques from his past life. Until he mastered them, he wouldn't dare to tell anyone else.
After all, the Breaking Clan's Breaking spear Technique is the crystallization of countless generations' hard work.
If I practice other spearmanship techniques, I might be considered an oddball, which would be troublesome.
Yang Podi also arranged for his father to hire someone to forge a set of close-fitting weights for him, totaling around thirty kilograms. This included 3 kilograms for each wrist guard and 20 kilograms for the chest plate. Although the overall weight was not heavy, he wouldn't take it off except during his medicinal baths.
The plan was to gradually increase the weight after fully adapting to the set. Ultimately, he would engage in excessive exercise every afternoon to push his body beyond its limits. After each weighted mountain climb, he would enhance his strength through medicinal baths.
