Chapter 20: Awakening of the Martial Soul
🕑 Added 2024-10-02 15:42:42 +0000 UTCIn the following period, the elders of the clan gradually consumed the whale gelatin, and its effects seemed to exceed expectations. Almost everyone increased their soul power by one level, and after taking the whale gelatin, their bodies expelled large amounts of black substance through their skin, which were impurities and even toxins.
For a time, everyone looked at Yang Podi with smiles, happily picking up the five-year-old boy, leaving him speechless.
Yang Podi also thought to himself, *Is the effect of this whale gelatin really that good? The elders of the clan didn't just improve their soul power by one level; their cultivation speed has notably increased.*
In fact, Yang Podi's lack of awareness stemmed from the complexity of the situation. The Breaking Clan had a deep-rooted culture of alchemy, and for them, alchemy seemed even more important than cultivation.
However, as the saying goes, "medicine is three parts poison." The medicinal materials contain various toxic substances, especially for those who have been refining medicine for a long time. These toxins have become deeply entrenched in the blood and bones of the clan members and can no longer be removed.
The whale gelatin's function is to enhance physical quality, strengthen vitality, and thereby increase the endurance of soul masters. At the same time, it helps to expand the meridians and eliminate internal impurities, making it a precious treasure for the Breaking Clan. Particularly, the elders who consumed the ten-thousand-year-old whale gelatin experienced effects that were comparable to some heavenly materials and earthly treasures.
Yang Wudi, his grandfather, had already broken through to level 78 after consuming the whale gelatin, while his second grandfather, Yang Wushuang, had broken through to level 77. According to their current cultivation speed, they could break through to Soul Douluo level within two years.
After spending over half a year like this, Yang Podi had finally turned six, reaching a height of nearly 1.3 meters. Although his face was still tender, he already resembled a small adult.
Recently, his mother's belly had begun to grow, indicating that he would soon have another brother or sister. His father had been staying home, not going out for anything, mainly to take care of his pregnant wife and little Yang Podi, while also diligently cultivating his soul power.
Since taking the whale gelatin, his father's cultivation speed had significantly increased. After breaking through to level 73 five months ago, he was now at the peak of level 73, and he estimated that he would reach level 74 within two months. Of course, this was also related to the fact that his father hadn't been refining medicine recently, while his mother, Niu Jinfeng, had broken through to level 65.
One day after dinner, his father, Yang Zhentian, said to Yang Podi, "Son, you should rest early tonight. Get your energy up. Tomorrow is the clan's martial soul awakening ceremony, and you'll awaken your martial soul then."
Hearing this, Yang Podi was very excited. After living in the Douluo Continent for six years, he was finally going to awaken his martial soul. The Douluo Continent was known as the Bloodline Continent; regardless of who you were, the martial soul was the foundation. Only by awakening a strong martial soul and having a high innate soul power level could one continue to develop. Otherwise, no matter how hard you worked, it would be difficult to achieve anything significant.
Just like in the original story with Yu Xiaogang, who awakened the martial soul Three Cannons, having an innate soul power of half a level, if it weren't for his father being the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect's leader, he might not even become a soul master.
Yang Podi's family background and connections were not as good as Yu Xiaogang's, and his charm with girls was also light-years away from him; it was possible that he would be a waste for his entire life.
Thus, he fell asleep with a mixture of excitement and anxiety. His parents watched him with concern, as every soul master had to go through this.
The next morning, his father, Yang Zhentian, and his mother brought him to the location of the martial soul awakening. Initially, his father wanted his mother to stay home and wait for news, but she was too worried and insisted on coming. In the end, his father couldn't win against her and had to let her come along.
To their surprise, the awakening ceremony took place outside the ancestral hall of the Breaking Clan, where eight chairs were set up. Sitting on them were his grandfather Yang Wudi and the seven elders of the Breaking Clan.
Unexpectedly, this time, the awakening ceremony was hosted by his father, Yang Zhentian, and he pulled Yang Podi to the front of the line.
Yang Podi was speechless. He had originally planned to observe how others awakened their martial souls first, but now he had been pulled to the front.
After a while, everyone had arrived. This martial soul awakening ceremony included 13 children, all direct descendants of the Breaking Clan.
In the world of soul masters, the biggest difference between direct and collateral descendants is the martial soul. No matter how high a father's status is, if the awakened martial soul is not the family's inherited martial soul, that child will fall to collateral status. After all, every family has a set of cultivation methods suitable for their martial soul. This was also the reason Yu Xiaogang was excluded from his family.
Yang Zhentian took out six black stones and arranged them in a hexagonal shape.
"Podi, come up and stand in the center of the hexagon."
Hearing this, Yang Podi walked nervously and excitedly to the center of the hexagon.
Suddenly, his father, Yang Zhentian, manifested his martial soul, and a gigantic Soul Breaking Spear appeared in his hand, measuring over three meters in length, with the spear tip taking up about a quarter of the spear's total length.
Next, six rays of light from Yang Zhentian entered the six black stones, which emitted golden light that enveloped Yang Podi like a golden shield.
He heard his father's voice: "Podi, close your eyes and extend your right hand to feel slowly."
Yang Podi closed his eyes and carefully sensed the changes within his body. He felt a force flowing throughout his body, warming him all over.
As time passed, a Soul Breaking Spear gradually formed in his right hand, almost identical to his father's, except that the spear's body appeared even darker, and the spearhead seemed sharper.
However, it seemed that this was not the end. The soul power continued to flow within him like an unceasing river, but there was no reaction in his left hand.
Yang Podi thought, 'This shouldn't be the case. After awakening the Soul Breaking Spear, I felt a different martial soul awakening, but my left hand hasn't reacted at all. Shouldn't the twin martial souls be one in the left hand and one in the right? Something feels off.'
While Yang Podi was lost in thought, his body gradually regained calm, leaving only the enormous Soul Breaking Spear in his hand.
"Son, not bad. Your awakened martial soul is the Soul Breaking Spear."
At this moment, Yang Zhentian breathed a sigh of relief. The Soul Breaking Spear was the inherited martial soul of the Breaking Clan, and as long as the normal disciples awakened the Soul Breaking Spear, their innate soul power wouldn't be too low, with very few below level five.
