They never really implied that about his mother until now. They did imply his personality is messed up though. We find out about the mom in the next two episodes. Unless I just didn't see them mention the mom previously.

It's implied that luck has a mental condition which makes his facial expressions they stuck in a smile regardless of how he actually feels also that his mother was abusive until he actually did something that impressed her
