The State of Something Address for 11/27/18 (Patreon, Changes, December status, and more)
🕑 Added 2018-11-27 05:20:08 +0000 UTC Hi there, everyone. Hope that you're having a nice post-thanksgiving, pre-christmas season. The air is growing cold, the leaves are growing old, and before you know it the snow will be on the ground with old saint Nick going "Ho ho ho!" down someone's chimney. While 2018 is slowly coming to a close, I want to take this time to reflect on my own year. See, it was roughly around this time last year that I realized I needed to start taking this writing more seriously if I want it to go anywhere, and I shaped up and began putting my focus into doing just that.Needless to say, it has worked well for me. Thanks to all of you that have commented, read, liked, favorited, or commissioned me for a story, and the fact that I can even fill up slots so quickly when I open anymore, I have a sense of confidence built up that this was the best choice I made in my life. There's a few things I do want to talk about, and it has a bit to do with Patreon and the end of the year.
So first off, with Christmas coming up, I'll likely only be taking a small handful of commissions compared to previous months, although it might not pop up right away. As I'm sure most of you know, my full time job is in retail, and during the holiday season things begin to get a little crazy. So I won't be as quick to take care of stories as I usually would be. Plus, it allows those of you who normally do commission me to save up for presents for your significant others. ;)
That said, I don't plan to slag on writing duties either, as I intend to get a few personal projects out of the way, mostly relating to Fizzer or Dragalia Lost. but there will be polls along the way as well. Those likely won't be posted right after I finish writing them, but be kept to the side in case I need a buffer for the weeks that are a little empty with no content going to HF, AO3, or QQ.
On the Patreon front, I plan to tweak things as far as tiers go after November payments go through. Right now, the intent is to remove the commission tiers, and add some beef to the rewards. I'm considering adding a new tier $5, with some additional content, namely any current work in progress story, altered scenes, scrapped stuff, and other things I would deem exclusive to the patrons. I had experimented with a $10 version earlier this year, but that didn't seem to work. I'm hoping a cheaper variant will seem much more attractive, and guarantee you would see WIPs regularly at the very least, given how I work.
As mentioned, the commission tiers will likely go, but I do plan to put something new there. In its place will be something new and somewhat experimental: the commission bank. If you've seen SlutWriter's Patreon, you may be aware of this concept already. The idea will be that each monthly support will go towards a word count. So if you pay, say $5USD per month, and after six months want to pay for a 3k word commission, you will be able to cash in after that, and the amount is reset after cashing in. I'm hopeful that this will be a nice reward for those of you reading this to consider. Speaking of Patreon itself, while I'm considering moving onto other avenues, I might be sticking to this platform for a while. Patreon has, for one reason or another, had its issues with nsfw content, whether it's the banks or some rough bumps in moving to banks overseas. Either way, this has affected many creators of adult content, and I just feel it might be best to find a place that isn't as harsh with their creators. But for now, Patreon seems to be where it's at until I can consider something else a little more NSFW friendly.
I do want to hear from you all what you think of the possible changes to Patreon, so please be sure to leave any comments. ^_^ Thank you all again for a great year, and I hope to see you again soon in 2019!
