Not only killed the Witch of Envy him by Crushing his Heart, she often enough stopped Time and Petted his Heart with those Shadowhands as a Warning to not speak another Word. And in one of the Episodes in Season 1, i think Ep 17 was it, those Shadow Hands killed for the First Time someone else ( They crushed Emilias Heart when he tryed to talk about her about his Return by Death)

Seems like you might've forgot that he's never been able to tell anyone his ability before,hence his breakdown. My theory on Beatrice is that Echidna is who she's calling Mother. Echidna has a lot of butterfly motifs which match Beatrice's eyes, and libraries are repositories of knowledge, so makes sense she'd be in charge of guarding one, especially one filled with forbidden books.
