Comic for Friday 3/26 (Early High Res)
🕑 Added 2021-03-25 19:57:05 +0000 UTCIf you've been following along, you probably know I'm a huge MCU nerd. Love it to bits. The DCEU... not so much. There have been a couple of enjoyable flicks (WW1, Aquaman), but I felt a lot of it was just a mess, tonally and structurally. Warner was too focused on trying to play catchup with Marvel, and didn't build things out properly.
Justice League was possibly the worst of all, and I was openly skeptical that there was any combination of filmed or cut footage that was going to turn it into a good film.
I've now watched the Snyder Cut of Justice League, and I don't mind saying, it was fine. It's still not what I would consider a "great" movie, and it's ridiculously self-indulgent, but it is far and away a more interesting movie than Whedon's original.
There's no way Snyder ever thought he was going to be allowed to put a 4 hours movie into theaters, so I'm not sure how accurate it is to his real "vision," but with the extra characters the film had to introduce (Aquaman, Flash, Cyborg), the extra time definitely gives it some breathing room.
I'm not a big DCEU fan, but I'm glad we got to see this alternate reality.
With that said, I'm not sure I love the way the fanbase went about their agenda to get it made, and I'm a little irritated that they now seem to think the same tactics will let them bully Warner Bros into this #RestoreTheSnyderverse movement in a similar fashion. I'm not looking forward to hearing about this hastag for the next 5-10 years as Warner Bros tries to right their DC ship in a different direction.

I completely forgot about Shazam, and agree that it was one of the best movies from the universe!

I agree, the MCU is definitely a bucket of chuckles, although I'm getting somewhat tired of the rigid formula they're been sticking to. The DCEU has had a gem or two, Shazam being by FAR the best. I think the Snyder/Nolan style is everything that is wrong with big name comic book movies. They are SO drab and dreary and completely at odds with the subject matter (grown adults running around in colorful underwear)

I completely agree on the MCU and the DCEU as a whole (though I did find Suicide Squad very entertaining). I also found the original Justice League completely unremarkable and forgettable. After just sitting through the entire Snyder's Cut, the first thought I had was "That's 4 hours of my life I'll never get back again...". I liked the Snyder cut even less than the original.
