I bought Diablo 3 on launch and one of the few who didn't have a problem initially. I can say with 100% certain that if I couldn't have jumped in and out of my WoW friends game I probably never finish it. That ability took an OK game and made it a good game.

I mean, it's "online" in the same way that SC2 is "online". You have to have a connection to run the game, and the server provides some of the content (mostly to avoid cheating), but playing with other people is 100% optional. I play solo the vast majority of the time, tbh.

I still haven't even played D3, and I refuse to so long as they force online mode (which means, I'll likely never play it). Somehow, I don't see them changing course with D4.
