I've seen/read a lot about them over the years, but never actually played one. I told myself that this time, with the latest release, I was finally going to dive in and see what it was all about. I got as far as the checkout screen in the Nintendo store. I just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger and spend $60 on something that looks so... dull.
Meanwhile, my personal social media becomes filled with talk about building things, and turnip prices, and it *feels* like I'm missing out, like all of my friends see something I don't.

It has been a nice family game for me, wife, and two young children (4 & 7). I like how chill it is. I like having control over pretty much everything on the island. I like some of the new social features. I played the OG gamecube version back in the day with my wife and its been cool to share a slightly more modern take with our kids. It has its problems, and if you aren't into it there's like a million other games out there to play.

Nope, it's definitely not just you that doesn't get this game. I have a coworker who plays it, and he told me himself that he literally spent three hours moving his items off the island to his wife's - effectively backing it up - and then recreating the island (which apparently has random generation of certain key locations), just so he could move one building 4 spaces over. I kid you not. I just don't get it.
