“Well… Since you don’t want to do that, how about we go train?” I said with enthusiasm as I picked her up into a princess carry.
“Sure, last time you almost hit me.” Melody said with a shrug of her shoulders and a slight smirk. Not even reacting at all to the way I was holding her in my arms. If she ever became a poker player, no one could read her.
“WAIT!!!” We both look at the girl who we had thought stormed out of the room after she rudely threw a cup at Melody. “You’re just leaving like that?” You could see the stunned look on her face.
“Yeah, my master here is going to teach me how to be a badass just like her!” My spirits heightened at the thought. I turned to say one more thing before I left. “You know she’s just as cute as she is lethal. One last thing, princess: I’m sorry that we couldn’t come to some kind of arrangement, but the girl in my arms is the only one for me.”
“Seriously, you know you’re going against your father, the king. He was going to get our full support for this marriage.” She huffed and puffed. “My butt is also on the line to make this work.”
“Sorry for wasting your time, but I can’t commit to that. Even if the father I’ve only seen a few times in my life commands it of me. I know for nobility and royalty, you can never have love in a marriage because everything is always forced upon you, but I refuse to live that way.” Looking seriously at this unknown princess, whose name I still don’t know, I said, “Maybe you should also try looking for something like that.”
After my words, I put Melody back on the ground, and we walked to the training grounds. Most of the time the royal knights laugh at my effort, but she always tries to train me seriously. I’ve definitely gotten better over the years, but I’m still not much of a talent with the sword.
Reaching the yard, we both took our weapons, and I started swinging at Melody, who casually dodged or parried all of my attacks. Right slash, upper slash, cross the body, down, and to the right. No matter what I tried, she effortlessly brushed my weapon aside.
“Can’t you just go a little easy on your future husband?” I said with a playful tone.
“Never, I’m getting you prepared for the future.” She once again sidesteps one of my swings.
“The future… When will I ever be needed to pick up a blade as long as you're with me?”
“While that’s true because I will always protect you, I would still feel much more confident if you could also defend yourself.”
“How pathetic, losing to a woman.” A large, bulky man commented off to the side, watching our sparring match.
“Are you saying you would beat a woman?” My breath is heavy as we’ve been doing this for the past hour. “Have you no shame saying you would actually hit a woman, pathetic bastard?” Thankfully for me, if some woman got up in my face, Melody would take care of it.
“What? Of course I would because men are the dominant sex. If they need to be disciplined, then we should be the ones to do it.”
“Melody has killed many men who thought the same thing, I’m sure, but look at her cute ass; she is still alive and breathing.” I smacked her butt as she walked next to me. Her face flushed for just a moment before it went back to dangerous. She enjoys being in the role of a submissive; I know it.
“Oh yeah… How about we duel then, and if she loses, I take her to my bed for the night?” The man suggested with a perverted look on his face.
“Fuck you!” I said without hesitation at the pure bullshit coming out of his mouth.
After my outburst, this bastard runs straight up to me, bashing his chest against mine. Without this man having even a chance to react, his head falls from his shoulders. My shocked state gets pulled back harshly as blood starts to drop right where I was standing.
Melody had quickly pulled me back out of the blood rain and straight into her arms. I stay there while feeling her warmth as everyone currently in the training yard runs over to us. With having a few inches on her, it felt a little weird but at the same time satisfying. Whenever she puts herself out there in a show of affection, I’m all for it.
“You bitch! How dare you kill our commanding officer?”
“You will die for this!”
Another man throws his gloves into Melody’s face, trying to have a duel with her. “Fight me; I will get revenge for the fallen captain.”
With a hand up to stop their blabbering, she spoke in a commanding tone. “Do you have any idea who this man is right here? She pointed in my direction. "It’s one of the princes of this kingdom, and that man just challenged his honor. Who here will go against the crown?”
“Clap, clap!” Hearing someone do a slow clap from a distance, I tightened up as I noticed who it was. The crown prince just happened to be here for this spectacle. “Bravo, good show. How about going against my best man?” He said as he looked towards Melody.
“Not interested.” Melody said as she looked coldly at the crown prince.
“Wow, to think someone could be so disrespectful towards me. I really like her. Sell her to me, you halfwit.” That was the name I was called because I was the only child born from another woman.
“Screw off; she’s mine.” I said as I flipped him off. Not sure if the people here know what the middle finger means, but it sure did get a rise out of him.
“I can see you’ve never been to etiquette classes. You might as well leave the palace and become a barbarian.” The crown prince said with disgust as the whole yard erupted in laughter.
“Just give the word, and I will kill every person present.” Melody whispered into my ear.
I know firsthand what kind of monster she can become when she starts showing her true nature. Recently she had opened up to me about what she went through before she came into my service. Being taught to be an assassin from the age of five is brutal, and the price was her emotions, which do seem to be coming back.
That’s another reason I started teasing her even more, just to help her regain those emotions she had lost. It’s also extremely fun messing with the girl you’re into when she’s also enjoying it. Her banter is always on point, and I love her for it.
Studying the prince's face, I smirk evilly, "So you want to send one of your men vs. my killer?" I side-hugged Melody as I stared confidently at all the idiots looking at me with disdain.
"A killer… who? That soft-looking girl in your arms? Don't make me laugh!" Everyone once again burst into laughter at the absurdity of my words. "It's like a lion vs. a rabbit."
"For someone who could be the king of this kingdom in the future, your lack of understanding when reading someone's capabilities is shocking." At my words, some of the prince's men moved closer, causing Melody to instantly stand in front, having a defensive posture.
"Those are big words from a man who is standing behind a woman." The crown prince scoffed.
"You're just jealous; no woman would put her life on the line for you, oh so great crown prince." I said with a snicker.
The face of the crown prince twisted before commanding his men. "Break his legs and beat that girl to an inch of her life. Then the halfwit can watch his prideful maid be destroyed as she's raped repeatedly in front of him."
I turned to Melody, who was looking at me with such an intense expression as if she was about to explode. If I gave the command, she would go on a killing spree; there's no doubt. She's extremely special and also much stronger than an ordinary woman or a man, for that matter.
The men who were surrounding the prince all started to move in our direction. It was about fifteen, as the other knights currently present just sat back and watched. It was never a good idea to get into a battle between two princes unless you wanted your life taken.
"Kill them!" I said with passion to the girl who was more than ready to follow my order. She smiled and at the same time glared at the men moving in our direction. It was one born from her feral nature when she's let off the leash.
A rip in space manifests as two large daggers with an ominous aura that start appearing in both of her hands. Melody's eyes turn into a crimson color from her more normal pinkish look. Her bloodthirsty grin caused most of the men to take one step back.
Before we got surrounded and put into a bad situation, she acted first before anyone was ready. Melody's body flashed towards the first target at a speed I'm sure most of these knights haven't seen. One cut to the neck and the second to his stomach as she twisted her body to shoot towards the next one.
He instantly grabbed for his neck as the blood gushed out, but at the same time, Niagara Falls burst out of his stomach. The man dropped dead right there, astonishing everyone in attendance at the brutality of the soft-looking maid.
Within the matter of about ten seconds, half the men have already dropped with similar injuries. Being taught as an assassin, she went for the kill shots every time; no reason to stretch it out.
I gazed towards the crown prince, who had a smushed-up face, trying to figure out what the hell just happened.
Melody's movements were as graceful as a dance as she flawlessly twisted and turned her way throughout the onslaught of the men who charged at her. Not giving even one of them a chance to surrender as she kept swinging for their vital points without any mercy.
In a little under a minute, she had quickly and decisively cut her way through the crown prince's men while ending her slaughter with both daggers pointed towards his throat.
"I dare you to take a deep breath." Melody's voice was laced with venom as her daggers rested against his neck.
"What the hell?" He screamed out as his life had never come so close to being taken, and to make it even worse, it was a woman.
None of the knights moved as the prince's life hung in the balance, and I'm sure they realized she would probably do it if provoked.
This wouldn't be the first time Melody has taken a life in front of many people, and for some reason my father has never once come to punish me. It's really weird, and I don't understand it, but it's increased the boldness of my femme fatale maid when pushed.
"I'm sure you now understand why your assassins never work when they're sent to take my life." I chuckled as I looked at the startled crown prince trying not to breathe too deeply with some blood trickling down his neck.
"Who sent assassins?" He said with a dumbfounded face. "But I've never sent anyone to kill you." The way he said it would make you almost believe he was telling the truth. "Also, get this crazy bitch away from me, or you will be given the death sentence if I die."
"Well, cry me a fucking river." My eyes were cold as I looked at the prince, and you could see the fear that I might give the order to finish him off. "In the future, you should remember just what type of girl Melody is and don't even think of provoking her in the future. She's literally a one-woman army and will kill anyone whom I deem necessary."
"You still would threaten me? What do you think Father would say about this?" His voice faltered. I'm sure he understands how that man usually doesn't interact with his children. But if his crown prince died, I'm sure he would find out why.
"Let's go, my lethal beauty." At my words, Melody stopped all action and returned to my side as we made our way out of the training grounds. I wonder if my so-called father will actually punish us for what happened today. My guess is no, but we will see.
