Honestly you are almost always better just doing 2 v 1 with the same points between two groups. 1v1v1 is just horrible, someone always gets wailed on and whoever leans fully into that wailing then gets wailed on.

Curious what the community's thoughts are, but one thing that wasn't mentioned was shooting into melee in a FFA game if none of your units are involved. Would this balance out a heavily terrained board if it exposed the melee units in this way?

3v3 kind of sucks due to the obvious ways - it ends up effectively 2v1 either by design or accidentally, so when we've got 3 people, it's usually organized into a 2v1 sort of setting, 2x1500 vs 3000 usually (there's always someone with extra models) so we can at least have a big battle

My group has done free-for-all games with 3 players when our 4th doesn't show, or our 5th actually does. It's hard for someone to not get ahead just because after eveyone has shot eachother, 2 people end up with almost nothing. Like, turn 1. player 1 shoots player 2, player 2 shoots back. Now player 3 has been untouched and can shoot at either weakened player

My play group focuses mostly one 2v2 and 3v3 with the odd 2v1 for when we are short on players. We find as long as the points per side are balanced it works pretty well. The downside is they do take longer, but it can be a lot of fun making the time sink worth it.

As I said on your community I think Triumph and Treachery could be easily adapted to fit an asymmetrical multiplayer game quite easily, it was a lot of fun in 8th Ed fantasy

When me and my friend first got into 40k, we used to do 2v1 with me vs them and their brother.

Had a 1v1v1 as a introduction to the game for some friends that were new to the game. The relaxed carnage was a good laugh and as it wasn't too serious, I think everyone had a good laugh so would definitely recommend.

Arks of Omen: Farsight has Boarding Patrol rules specifically designed to be used for 2v2, 1v1v1v1, 1v1v1 or regular 1v1 games. I've not tried them, but I would like to at some point!

The big lightbulb moment was realizing that the player C can shoot into combat between players A and B. I think our table was too big (48×48). AdMech just sat in the backfield and shot us up, couldn't get my orks into melee. No transports in combat patrol means we get shot up fast. Still loads of fun!

I do a 10,000 to 15,000 point game every 6 or so months... we have two teams chip in with 1000 to 2000 points of models and normally theme it. Its unbalanced as all hell but tons of fun. In july we did chaos vs imperium with chaos bing 7 players and imperium being 6

I played a 6v6 on the release of 10th at my local game store. It was 2 teams of 6 players, 1k points each. It seemed to work well. We played a mission and we kept our cp separate for all players. It didn't require any special rules otherwise. Just kinda worked. It was fun and far less stressful than 1v1. But it was very long and we had to stop after T3 and 6 hours of play.

One of the funniest games I've ever played was 2v1 against my brothers in law. I controlled the center of the board with a 1k army and they were on each side trying to take the board with a 1k army each. Came down to the last saving throw roll where my phobos librarian was killed by an ork nob.

The first couple times I played 40k was 3-4 man, older brother taught me and my younger with a rhino, 2 tactical squads, and a captain each

I have not watched this video yet but I regularly played 3-player 40k in 9th edition and am visiting friends where we are about to play my first 3-player 10th edition game. 2 of the other players have never played 2k points in their life. This will be chaos.
