Eth Aldur - Dwarven City - Settlement Map
🕑 Added 2021-05-26 14:26:08 +0000 UTCThe history of the Dwarves in Taritha is a long and exalted one. A near mythical saga that far exceeds our own human story in both length and grandiosity.
Though there are few scholars alive today that could reasonably call themselves experts in the affairs of this famously reclusive people; I had the pleasure of examining a manuscript written by Calan of Darus, a renowned historian from before the return.
In his work, 'The Age of Fire and Steel', he referenced the ancient kingdoms of the Dwarves and that at their height they stretched across continent, from sea to sea, all throughout the lands of Taritha.
Of these Dwarven holds it was a certain Eth Aldur in which he expressed the most adoration. Located somewhere within the Icecrown Mountains, he detailed the near wondrous technologies to be found within the city. Great forges and smelters that fed huge workshops and factories; golem like 'men of metal', who moved on their own as if alive, there were even veiled references to flying machines that would take to the sky from within the mountain itself.
Bordering on fanciful, I never the less found myself drawn in to the majesty of these ancient people as described by Calan. There would be little I would enjoy more than standing in those vaulted halls and witnessing their splendor for myself.
Though no expert, I know some of the Dwarven tongue and, with my abilities such as they are, I have loosely translated Eth Aldur to mean, 'The First Flame'. Exactly what this refers to is not clear to me, however Dwarven folklore does tell of a mystical time of so called 'Dragons Lords'. These great winged serpents supposedly taught the forbears of the Dwarves to harness fire and to smelt gold and iron. The logical conclusion would be that Eth Aldur had some part to play in this mythos, whether metaphorically or literally I fear we will never know....

Hi all,
I am pleased to present the third map pack for this months theme of Caves and Caverns, and what better addition than that of Eth Aldur, a large Dwarven city, tucked away within a tall mountain peak.
In my own homebrew world the Dwarves are an ancient race who's golden age existed long before the rise of men or even the arrival of Elves. Their continent spanning empire reduced to nothing more than a few scattered holds clinging on to the edge of a world they baring recognize.
Eth Aldur, is the capital of one of these kingdoms and though it has long since been forgotten and abandoned in my own world, I have represented it in all its glory here for you.

Is it possible to get this as a .psd in the MC dropbox? I'm having trouble opening the .psb in either GIMP or paint.net, but no problem opening .psd for previous settlements. Also, do you use a custom font? This map works really for a city I already described to my players, but unfortunately I already told them the name, so I'd need to replace the name if I shared the labelled version with them.

I wasn't planning on it as I thought there would be limited scope to use it as a battlemap as the squares would be very small. I'm happy to do it though if there is a desire for it :) Would you want it more as just a frame of reference for your party to then use smaller battlemaps for encounters?

Do you have plans to make this package available trough a foundry module like the Caves and Caverns. It really is amazing to be able to import them directly into my games. Thanks!
