One of the things I wanted to add in the next Emerald Dawn update is animations.
Frame by frame animation is so goddamn hard and pixel art clashes with the high res art (and my results were not quite satisfactoryπ ) So we're left with skeletal/puppet animation. I avoided this for the longest time because deep inside I want to be able to animate frame by frame...
BUT after playing around with Spine, I changed my mind VERY quickly lol. Despite the learning curve and of course animation itself being a different discipline, I must say I'm having a blast animating my art! Seeing Rhea in motion activates neurons I never knew existed lmao
Now I'm still a beginner at animation so it will take a little bit before I get good at it, but I'm just excited to talk about it ^^ I'm gonna take a break from animation fun and to draw the November poll winners. I need to get through my backlog as soon as I can!
Please check out the Attachments for the test animation since I can't embed the WEBM. It's a short one so I recommend looping it!
That's all for now! I have more to talk about but I'll save it for another post.

I was really being stubborn about animating everything by hand but yeah, at some point I had to admit defeat haha. It's a great compromise for sure!

Couldn't vote because of IRL stuff at the time, but very pleased with the winners! Was hoping for any 2 of Goldmary, Implacable, and Ivy :D Animation looks good! Frame by frame at the quality you produce would be an absurdly time intensive task, I think the skeleton/puppet animation is a great compromise.
