Progress Report

My God, I had so many questionable sentences and wonky dialogues in Chapter 2. I'm a bit embarrassed that it's been out for so long at this point 😩. But this is why editing is so important. A manuscript is really just a rough draft before it.
Because of the nature of IF — in which we write different variations of the same scene — sometimes, I can use the same words or descriptions multiple times without realizing it because I'm writing them out of order or I wrote one part on Monday, and the other on Friday, and I forgot what I wrote earlier. Basically, it can be quite messy, and easy to repeat some descriptions or even character gestures.
So, a big part of my work these last two weeks has been catching these errors and either re-writing them or erasing them altogether. I'm also naturally a descriptive writer, but in conversations, they can slow down the pace, so I've also been erasing a lot of unnecessary body language descriptions, environmental cues, overly wordy dialogue, and, in one case, a whole set of choices.
I was also able to work on Mist a bit more — as it happens with all characters that I'm not used to writing yet, in some parts he wasn't characterized quite how I wanted to. There were way too many instances where he smiled, for example. I think now, I have a better hang of how he moves and expresses himself, although I gotta give props to my past self, his dialogues have been the best ones in chapter 2 😄.
Alessa and Lance also had some adjustments. I guess only Hadrian was rock solid in this chapter 😋.
So far I've shaved off nearly 5k words from the chapter, and I'm estimating I'll erase 2k more before its end.
This is all to say that the work's been boring but it's been rewarding! I was proud to share the chapter when I finished coding it, but I'll be prouder still once it's truly finished.
I wasn't able to finish the edit in these two weeks, but I'll be editing on the weekend so, I'm pretty sure I'll finish by Tuesday.
I hope you had a great week! A friend of a friend found another lost kitten on the side of the road, so now, I have a two-month-old kitten annoying the hell out of my dog and older cat 😭. I love him already, though. ♡

Because some of you requested it, here's Óscar! I call him Oscar Wilde 😄. This was on the first week I got him. We think he was about 5 weeks old.

Yes, animal abusers deserve the worst! I love the different personalities pets have they are just like us. Each with its on personality and temperament! And I do! We thank you for your hug and send many hugs back to you and your fur babies too! 🥰 🤗

I can't even stomach animal abusers. I don't believe in hell but I hope there's one for them. And you're right ofc, I'm the one who won with Óscar 😊 he's a sweetheart. It's cool to see how different his personality is from Nala - she's a sweetheart too but in a different way 🥺 I'm guessing you have pets as well, so a hug to you and your fur babies ❤️❤️

You did not fail Ana! You won! You won another companion for life and won as a person because you showed compassion and loving care to a helpless creature that would have to endure awful conditions if it were not for you. 🥰 And I know, animals that need a home are way too many. Also, animals that need rehoming are way too many too. A lot of people got pets during the pandemic and they do not care for them properly now that they are back to "normal life" a lot of people gave their pets away after the pandemic it is just so heart breaking to me 🥺not to mention people who abuse them😭 people are just awful. So you did not fail Ana you are an angel! You won and most importantly Oscar won too 🥹🥰

I'm the same!! I wish I could take every stray home. Fortunately, the stray numbers are diminishing where I live but there's always animals needing a home 🥺 I was supposed to only foster Óscar but.... I failed 🤣

Well done Ana for finishing the editing process of the first 2 chapters! That must be so exhausting to go through! Also hello Oscar!!!🥰😍😻 he is incredibly cute and you are an angel for adopting him and saving him from the harsh life of being a stray 😭🥹💔 I wish I could help all the strays in my country too (we have a stray problem, unfortunately 😭). I love animals so much!I cannot bear to see them suffer!😢 you are an angel for taking him in! I wish I could help them all. Kind of like that meme. "If I ever win the lottery I will not tell anyone, but there will be signs." The signs in my case being me having 1000 animals and opening up nokill shelters all over the world 😂

Oh my goodness that is such a cute kitten 🥺🥺🥺 my best friend's name is Oscar, and while he is definitely more of a dog person, he also thinks his feline namesake is adorable 😁 I've always found editing to be one of the hardest steps of the writing process, so props to you for pulling through!!

always remember that folks here know we are getting access to work in progress/drafts! i remember how much polishing the first book went through, and im expecting the same for book 2. in fact, its kinda fun to see you work through the writing and make it even better! all this to say, don’t worry too much about any parts you might find embarrassing :’) congrats on the progress and the kitty!!
