The guard punches you with a gauntlet hand in chapter 5! That leaves a deep cut that the MC quickly realizes will scar

Scars are a great way to show the punishment characters go through while achieving their goals, and can mean many different things to many different characters. I can't wait to act as nonchalant as possable while looking like a bond villain.

I also like scrappy, "Take a picture, it'll last longer," not quite hostile but truculent. Not quite Joe Pesci "Do I amuse you?" but maybe 20% of that.
