Chapter 33: Morning Meeting
🕑 Added 2025-04-18 07:17:49 +0000 UTCThe gazes from all around were completely different from the feeling of being stared at by passers-by on the street before. The condescending gazes as if looking at a merchandise made people feel uncomfortable. Fortunately, he had put on the helmet in advance so as not to expose his gloomy face.
Unlike the last time, the two sides of Artoria were no longer just knights. Several men in luxurious clothes stood at the front of the line, and those glances just now were cast by them. On that pretentious face that made people want to chop it in half with a sword, there was an inexplicable look of complacency.
As soon as they met, Menachel lost his patience with these nobles. He couldn’t help but build a beautiful scene in his mind of himself holding a sword and slaughtering the entire nobles of Camelot
“Sir Menachel, come forward. Today is your awarding ceremony.”
An awarding eremony is a promotion ceremony. Menachel will be assigned to a knight group as it’sleader, but in Camelot, except for Artoria’s personal guards, almost all knight groups have received more or less funding from the nobles.
This is why Artoria said that this was just a morning meeting for the nobles to recruit Menachel.
Menachel walked out from behind Lanmaroc, keeping a slow pace and step by step passing the knights in front of him. Finally, he stopped at the same level as the nobles. In front of him was only Artoria, and beside him was a white-faced, beardless noble with a horse face.
The nobleman, who was called the horse-faced man, looked at Menachel wantonly. He did not lower his voice, and said on behalf of all the nobles with a tone of “This is your honor”:
“Is this the ‘Ghost-faced Knight' that is circulated in the outside world? It is indeed extraordinary.”
Artoria did not stop him. She had already turned a blind eye to this normal privilege.
Menachel curled his lips in disdain. He was not used to the horse-faced man. Instead of answering, he took a small step forward. It was this small step that made him stand in front of all the nobles. At this moment, there was no one beside him, and Artoria was right in front of him.
The horse-faced nobleman’s horse face immediately turned red and turned iron blue. He never thought that Menachel would ignore him directly. The faces of other nobles were not very good either. Menachel’s step forward was just trampling on their authority.
Artoria quietly cast a helpless look at Menachel. She regretted telling the person concerned about the rumors about Menachel in the city.
Just because of the unique sword wound on Ambi’s body, it was concluded that Menachel deliberately opened the city gate to lead the enemy soldiers into the city in order to seize power, and then portrayed himself as a defender who turned the tide — such a lie full of loopholes could probably only be made up by these nobles who had never been on the battlefield.
But the most outrageous thing is that Ambi was indeed killed by Menachel.
However, Artoria’s eye contact was blocked by Menachel’s helmet, and she did not get any effective response.
Artoria felt a little uncomfortable with the discomfort of this communication barrier, so the girl coughed lightly and used the majestic voice of King Arthur: “Sir Menachel, please pay attention to etiquette and take off your helmet.”
In fact, in Camelot, there is no etiquette to take off the armor when meeting the king. Artoria’s behavior has set a precedent.
Menachel calmed down his joyful mood because he angered the nobles, and he took off the helmet with a calm and mature expression.
“How disrespectful!”
The horse-faced nobleman agreed with Artoria’s action with righteous indignation. This loyal and patriotic look reminded Menachel of the scene when he first met Tylu, but now he has been cut into two pieces.
Menachel couldn’t help but look back at the horse-faced nobleman. He spoke brazenly without making any sound, but just used his mouth to form the words “horse face”.
The horse-faced nobleman was so angry that his body trembled. Just now, he suddenly understood the lip language, but before he could make an effective counterattack, Menachel had already turned his head away.
When had the nobleman Horseface ever been humiliated like this? He looked at his companions, but these old foxes all bowed their heads and pretended to be blind. Like the rebellious kings, these nobles were not harmonious among themselves. It would be better to say that other nobles were happy to see Horseface suffer a little loss.
Horseface remembered the faces of those who sided with Menachel in his heart, and he tilted his head to the side. Of course, he would not insult like Menachel. Under his gaze, a knight behind him suddenly said: “I can’t tolerate being in the same room with such a vulgar knight. I, Cardo, challenge you to a duel.”
It was another name that he had never heard of. Menachel turned his head to look at Artoria, but the expression of the young king was still calm. It seemed that he was not a powerful character.
But Menachel’s action caused some misunderstandings among the others, and one of the nobles immediately said, “The king should not stop the glorious duel between knights.”
Although they were happy to see the horse-faced nobles suffer, Menachel’s behavior of ignoring their noble authority must be severely punished. So when one of the nobles spoke up, the other nobles also turned their eyes to Artoria’s face.
Artoria then withdrew her gaze from Cardo, and he maintained the majesty of the king and said slowly:
“This is natural, the honor of a knight is above everything else.”
- Be careful, Cardo is a knight personally appointed by the late King Uther.
Menachel looked at Merlin standing behind Artoria, presumably this was information transmitted by the other party through magic.
Since he was a knight appointed by the previous king but he served the nobles — that must be the legacy of the previous dynasty, right?
Menachel raised the corners of his mouth, and he subconsciously wanted to grasp the big sword behind him, but he touched nothing again. His hand stretched behind his back froze, and then he pretended that he was just tired of standing and stretched lazily.
In the future, Artoria must allow him to bring the sword to the hall.
Having set a grand ambition in his heart, Menachel did not show it on his face. He put on the helmet and said: “I accept your challenge…”
Here, Menachel paused for a moment, and then said with certainty: “Sir Kalbo.”
“I’m Cardo.”
Kadu repeated his name again, suppressing his anger.
Menachel didn’t care about his provocative behavior. He waved his hand nonchalantly and taunted Cardo for the second time.
Cardo gritted his teeth and secretly made up his mind to cut off Menachel’s arm — this is the maximum injury allowed in a knight’s duel.
But what he didn’t know was that Menachel, who was facing him, had no intention of letting him survive.
