Chapter 27: No more games
🕑 Added 2025-04-16 09:19:34 +0000 UTCIt was night, and the moonlight tonight was unusually bright. Even without any lighting tools, it was enough for people to maintain a relatively clear vision.
But Menachel’s expression was the opposite of the night. His face was filled with frightening anger, and the blood-stained sword in his hand dripped blood drop by drop. Just now, he was assassinated. If it weren’t for his timely premonition and the assassin’s weakness, he would probably have suffered some minor injuries.
The experience of fighting in Utopia for many years made Menachel’s body react before his brain can in an emergency, but when Menachel’s brain reacted, the enemy had been broken into two and fell in a pool of blood.
Bending down, he saw a young unfamiliar face, which made Menachel’s expression even worse. From the other party’s sword-drawing action and the pace of escape, Menachel could judge that the fourth lurker last night should be Chamo. Even if it was not the old acquaintance Chamo, it should be a man of similar size to him, and definitely not the young man lying on the ground now.
So is there another enemy lurking in? Menachel pondered, and speculated with the greatest malice about the thoughts of the commander of the current knights.
Perhaps the man in front of him was sent by the deputy, and his purpose was to assassinate? No, it should be said that he wanted to stop the assassination.
In the blink of an eye, Menachel had figured out everything. His fourth lurker had been replaced by the two corpses in front of him.
Menachel understood the deputy’s mood this morning. He knew the whole truth of the matter, but he couldn’t say it. The difference was that Menachel wasn’t afraid.
The assassin wore normal soft armor and only had a knight’s sword without blood in his hand. There were only him and the assassin at the time of the crime. It was hard to say who started it first, and it was even hard to say whether the deceased had done it.
So in order to preserve his reputation, the dead knight in front of him could only be the fourth lurker who escaped from Menachel.
The sudden sound of footsteps confirmed Menachel’s thoughts. Menachel took a deep breath to control the anger that was about to overflow from his face, and turned to look at his deputy who was standing there in surprise.
“Sir Menachel, you…”
Knight Ambi, who was said to have taken a long detour to go back and rest, and heard an unusual sound on the road, so he hurried to check, and now he had a look of hesitation on his face.
In order to prevent the tragedy of the corpse lying on the ground suddenly getting up and killing Ambi, Ambi’s voice could even be called deafening: “You killed the fourth lurker.”
As everyone knows, the dead cannot kill people. Ambi deliberately emphasized the tone of the word “kill” and made a conclusion about the assassination.
“Yes, I killed him in return.”
Although Menachel wanted to try to tell the truth, there was a great possibility that he would be bitten back, and then he would have to trouble Artoria to deal with the aftermath.
He didn't want to be identified by the girl as a guy who only caused trouble, so Menachel quickly gave up the idea.
Mutual compromise is the unspoken rule hidden behind the scenes, and Menachel has learned this rule without realizing it.
There was no possibility of subsequent infiltration. As Menachel had imagined, Ambi had arranged knights to guard the walls at night, so the assassination attempt last night was quickly turned over.
But on the second day, the Knights of Tylu received an order to stop the enemy. With 300 people fighting against thousands of people, Artoria certainly could not make such an outrageous mistake, but the fact was that Lanmarok’s surprise attack was successful, burning the rebels’ food supply in one fell swoop, and the rebels had to evacuate in batches.
Not only the Knights of Tylu, but also the six knights belonging to Camelot also received the same order, and even for a while there was news that King Arthur was also ready to lead his guards to fight together.
However, the acting leader Ambi was full of worry at this time. As the first pass facing the enemy, the Knights of Tylu would definitely suffer heavy losses. If he was Tylu’s deputy before, then this responsibility would be borne by him. Now that Tylu is dead, Ambi has become the acting leader, and as the only leader, this responsibility still has to be borne by him.
So Ambi gritted his teeth and did not order to go out of the city to pursue. As for the excuse, he had already thought of it. The order he received was to stop the enemy soldiers, not to go out of the city to meet the enemy. In order to prevent the enemy from counterattacking, he issued such an order.
As for King Arthur’s punishment, Ambi was not very worried. As long as the combat effectiveness of the Knights could be preserved, the nobles he surrendered to could also protect himself. After all, King Arthur was only the king of a few people.
And he came to the meeting today to explain this matter. Ambi was not worried about the rest of the people. The only one who made him worried was Menachel.
As a direct subordinate of King Arthur, the other party must have received the same news as him. It was impossible to suppress the news, so Ambi had to bite the bullet and reason with the other party.
But to Ambi’s surprise, this thorn was particularly easy to talk to today. He just explained it and quickly agreed.
This abnormal situation not only did not comfort Ambi, but made him feel uneasy—after all, only when dealing with dying people would one have such a casual attitude.
Is he going to assassinate again tonight? Ambi thought, and secretly decided to add a few more guards to his own.
Menachel saw Ambi’s nervous look, and he really didn’t intend to kill Ambi directly. After all, he was now a knight of Camelot, and he couldn’t do things as openly as he did when he was a rebel.
The reason why he agreed to Ambi’s proposal was that he felt that defending the city would bring greater value.
Perhaps Ambi didn’t find it, but Menachel knew very well that even if he rode a fast horse, it would take a day for the letter from the back city to be delivered here, and it would take even longer for Lanmaroc to send the news of the successful food shortage back to Camelot.
Unlike Camelot, where the news was blocked, the rebels probably got the news as soon as the food was cut off, but the other side sent four people to secretly cross the city wall and come to the city two days ago.
Such a strange move does not conform to the behavior of a troop that is about to evacuate, but it is more like preparing to attack the city.
So the question is, where did the fourth enemy lurking in the city go… Or, before Menachel discovered the four intruders, were there really no other enemies infiltrating?
Is there really only one rebel knight in this small outer city?
Menachel, who was addicted to the pleasure of seizing power, was a little overwhelmed by his own thoughts. At this time, he was completely sober. He could no longer indulge in games.
