Chapter 20: Ambush
🕑 Added 2025-04-13 11:56:11 +0000 UTCWhat Menachel didn’t expect was that the seemingly big and strong King of the Hundred Knights didn’t choose to forcefully break the city gate, but surrounded it without attacking.
This is simply stupid.
While occupying the advantage in military strength, the problem faced by the rebels is the shortage of supplies. Camelot is backed by King’s Ridge, and even if the soldiers are small, it is enough to kill the King of the Hundred Knights.
But the facts proved that Menachel took it for granted. The reputation of the King of the Hundred Knights is not just for show. On the third night of the siege of the rear city, Menachel had just handed over the patrol mission, and noisy shouts and hurried horse hooves came from outside the military camp, and the firelight illuminated the dim night sky.
Menachel immediately realized that someone was attacking the camp.
He hurriedly picked up the heavy sword placed beside him and rushed out of the tent. What he saw was the panicked crowd and the sky illuminated by fire in the distance.
“Lord Menachel.”
As soon as Menachel appeared, a knight under King Gwyn immediately surrounded him. The armor on his body looked a little messy because he had put it on in a hurry.
Menachel nodded slightly, and his face subconsciously showed a serious expression of official business.
“How is the situation?”
This was just a symbolic inquiry. Menachel could see the general situation at a glance. Although the rebels from various kingdoms formed an alliance, they did not set up camps in a row. Obviously, it was not King Gwyn’s camp that was attacked.
If Menachel remembered correctly, that was the camp of the Hundred Knights.
“The robbed were the camp of Calades.”
After hearing the report from his subordinates, Menachel, whose memory was a little confused, subconsciously wanted to cover his face, but he still resisted this impulse that should not have appeared.
“Lord, what should we do next…”
Menachel glanced at the knight next to him, and saw the flattering smile on his face and couldn’t help feeling bored: the knights under his command had no pride as knights at all.
“No need to do anything.” Menachel denied his idea as soon as he finished speaking: “No, we should block the road to the back city gate.”
Originally, as an insider, Menachel was not prepared to take action, but he immediately thought that the King of the Hundred Knights might have led a team to ambush near the back city to intercept Camelot’s camp-attacking team.
So Menachel was ready to “help” the King of the Hundred Knights.
…
Just as Menachel was about to go and backstab the King of the Hundred Knights, on the other side, Artoria got on her horse and organized a retreat with some annoyance.
This attack did not achieve the expected effect at all. She had to retreat immediately before the enemy organized an effective counterattack.
The knights who were willing to accompany her on the adventure tonight were all her confidants, and they would feel sad if they lost Artoria.
Although she was the new king of Camelot, her situation was not optimistic. Not only were there rebels and foreigners outside Camelot, but even the local nobles who put Artoria on the throne needed to be guarded against.
She came out to raid the camp tonight because of the lack of supplies – that’s right, the Camelot side, which was fighting on its home ground and with King Ridge behind them, actually ran out of military supplies earlier than the expeditionary rebels.
They said that they could no longer provide supplies, but Artoria knew very well what those nobles were thinking – they just wanted her to compromise and become a puppet king. So Artoria had no choice but to plan this raid on the camp and try to burn the enemy’s supplies.
But the result was undoubtedly a failure.
The King of the Hundred Knights’ plan of dividing the camps left Artoria with no choice but to rely on luck to guess where the supplies were.
If she were given another thousand, no, only another five hundred knights, Artoria would be confident that she could turn the tide of the war, but the total number of knights and ordinary soldiers she could use was only a few hundred. Although the other knights were nominally under her command, they were subordinates of the nobles in the city.
Every time she thought of this, Artoria could not help but feel sad about her situation: if it were not for Merlin’s suppression, those nobles with great power would have usurped the throne long ago.
The fire in front of her interrupted Artoria’s thinking and also made the girl’s heart cold.
Through the dim light, Artoria saw the figure of the leader. The person who came was the King of the Hundred Knights who had insulted her in public not long ago. At this time, the other party was wearing golden armor and holding a sword, and his face showed an annoying provocative smile.
Due to the limited light, Artoria could not accurately judge the number of knights behind the other party, but it was definitely more than a hundred.
Artoria took a deep breath, tightened the reins and restrained the horse’s neck to stop the white horse under her.
“King Arthur, I have been waiting here for a long time.”
The King of the Hundred Knights also dismounted, and he did not hide his pride at all.
“All troops, prepare to charge.” Artoria listened to the faint sound of horse hooves coming from behind her, and the girl knew that she could not delay any longer. If the two armies were to surround her, then none of her and her knights would survive.
Just as the King of the Hundred Knights was about to give an order, he heard a full-bodied shout from behind him.
“Charge!”
The King of the Hundred Knights looked up blankly, but soon he thought of something – the reinforcements from the back city had arrived.
Artoria also reacted immediately, clamped her legs around the horse’s belly, and took the lead in rushing straight towards the King of the Hundred Knights’s army.
The situation changed In a flash, and the King of the Hundred Knights gritted his teeth, turned on his horse, and waved his sword in his hand and rushed straight towards Artoria who was running in the front.
As long as King Arthur could be captured, the pursuers behind him would not be a big deal.
Thinking of this, a trace of cruelty flashed in the eyes of the King of the Hundred Knights, but before the two of them fought, the King of the Hundred Knights clearly saw a flash of surprise on the face of the young king opposite him.
His heart was alarmed, and the chaotic fighting around him quickly faded away at this moment. At this time, the King of the Hundred Knights only heard the sound of breaking air behind him.
Years of experience in fighting outside allowed the King of the Hundred Knights to make the most accurate choice in a moment. He clamped his legs on the horse’s belly, but his hands loosened the reins, allowing the accelerating horse to throw him away.
Almost at the moment when the King of the Hundred Knights turned over and landed, he caught a glimpse of a cold light in his peripheral vision, and his out-of-control horse fell to the ground instantly.
The dripping sound of blood immediately brought the King of the Hundred Knights back to his senses. He retracted his gaze towards the horse that had lost its front hoof, picked up his sword and turned to the direction of the attack.
“You are” the Hundred Knights said with a look of surprise and anger: “A knight under Gwyn.”
The person who came was not the support from the rear city as the Hundred Knights thought, but the red-armored knight who impressed him.
The King of the Hundred Knights really couldn’t understand why he was attacked by the opponent before he even made a move on him?
He held It in for a long time, and finally squeezed out a dry sentence:
“Did that old guy Gwyn ask you to do this?”
