Chapter 18: King Arthur's Retreat
🕑 Added 2025-04-13 11:55:09 +0000 UTCImmediately, several of the guards around King Arthur rushed towards the eight kings, but this undoubtedly weakened the guards around Artoria.
Menachel calmly adjusted his position and blocked in front of the King of the Hundred Knights to prevent the shameless old man from launching a sneak attack and directly taking down Artoria, but Menachel was surprised to find that the King of the Hundred Knights stood there to meet the challenge with martial virtue.
Not only the King of the Hundred Knights, but the other six kings except King Gwyn also drew their swords and wrestled with the knights who rushed forward, and the guards brought by these kings were just cannon fodder to resist the knights of Camelot.
On the other hand, King Gwyn shrank under the protection of Menachel and the other two knights.
Menachel cast a contemptuous look at King Gwyn, looking at you, then looking at him, I finally know why you are the weakest king.
But King Gwyn obviously couldn’t read such complex information from Menachel’s simple eyes. He stared at Menachel and couldn’t help but remind him: “Sir Menachel, the enemy is coming.”
Menachel’s hand froze as he was about to draw his sword. He subconsciously glanced at Artoria on the high platform. Fortunately, the scene was too noisy and the girl didn’t hear King Gwyn’s call.
And it was during this moment of hesitation that the knight in bright silver had approached him. It was impossible to draw out the dragon sword to block it. Menachel had to draw the rapier at his waist to block the spear.
The overly light feel gave Menachel the illusion of being unarmed. The inconvenience of the weapon made it impossible for Menachel to counterattack immediately. He only had a slight advantage by relying on his own strength.
Being selected as King Arthur’s guard knight, the Silver Knight was certainly not a mediocre person. Just as Menachel was about to press down the spear bit by bit, the opponent suddenly let go, and Menachel fell forward in a panic due to the unstable center of gravity.
Seizing this momentary opportunity, the Silver Knight grabbed the spear again, and the long spear slashed with a cold light directly at Menachel’s visor.
Menachel instantly stopped his falling figure, and he held the rapier in his hand in reverse, and rushed straight to the face of the Silver Knight as a dagger.
The move of exchanging injuries for injuries forced the Silver Knight to give up the current attack. The opponent jumped and pulled away. Only then did Menachel notice that the weapon held by the opponent was actually a lance.
The spear shaft, which is much longer than the lance, gives this weapon excellent horse-riding combat capabilities, but the opponent just didn’t ride a horse and only relied on a lance to fight him to a draw.
For a moment, Menachel felt that his body was gradually getting hot, and a circle of faint red light burned around his armor.
Under the blessing of the dragon’s magic, Menachel crushed the rapier in his hand with force. He threw his hand and the fragments of the sword shot towards the knight in front of him like arrows.
While the opponent was using a spear to clean up the flying broken sword, Menachel drew out the greatsword behind him. At the same time, he exerted force with his feet, and the explosive force pushed Menachel straight towards the silver-armored knight. He swung the sword and slightly adjusted the direction of the sword to hit the silver-armored knight with the back of the sword. The sword move changed from slashing to hitting. Although it was not fatal, with Menachel’s current strength, the opponent would definitely lose his combat ability.
Several beams of high-speed arrows caused Menachel’s sure-shot attack to have some errors, and it was these errors that gave the silver-armored knight another chance to counterattack.
Seeing the lance protruding from his chest, Menachel’s eyes flashed with a trace of boredom. The momentum of the greatsword in his hand did not decrease, but he cleverly changed the target of attack, and cut the lance in half with just one blow.
Menachel landed on his feet, and he seemed to ignore the recoil of swinging the sword and swung the sword again.
The silver-armored knight only had time to block with the spear, but such fragile weapons were useless under Menachel’s full-strength swing, and he couldn’t even block for a moment. He could only watch the blade of the sword approaching little by little.
When the cold light flashed and came into his eyes again, the blade had become a wide sword back. Before he could react, the sword that looked like the hand of death had been blocked by a golden knight’s sword.
“Back off, Lord Lanmarok.”
The one who blocked Menachel’s attack was naturally King Arthur. At this time, the girl’s emerald eyes were full of resentment, and she seemed to be angry at the ridicule of the King of the Hundred Knights.
Menachel also understood this very well. After all, he knew very well how much Artoria had paid for the throne today. It was not “picking up a throne because of good luck” as the King of the Hundred Knights said.
“I’m sorry, my King.”
The silver-armored knight called Lanmarok by Artoria made a neutral voice. Seeing that the annoying knight was unwilling to retreat, Menachel was just about to put away his sword and say hello to the old friend he hadn’t seen for a long time, but he saw that the other party had already attacked him without any hesitation, and there was no sign of holding back in every move.
Menachel immediately realized his target was his armor. He wanted to reach out and pull off the helmet, but he was beaten by Artoria’s intensive and fierce attack.
Not only that, Menachel’s mode of fighting with only defense and no attack obviously angered Artoria. The proud girl not only did not stop attacking, but her attacks became more fierce than the last one.
Just as Menachel was thinking about whether to end the battle with one blow, he saw Artoria’s face change in front of him.
With a roar, it indicated that the city gate had been breached. Artoria glanced at the guard knights fighting with the kings around her. Although she had a slight advantage, it was still too early to turn it into a winning advantage.
Between fighting in the streets to defend the city and abandoning the city and retreating, Artoria gritted her teeth and chose the latter.
The girl "forced back" Menachel with a sword, and before leaving, she took a deep look at the red knight beside her.
“I will come to you again.”
After leaving this sentence, Artoria did not stay for long, and led the crowd to attack the back door that was still under control.
Menachel moved his numb arms and secretly sighed at Artoria’s growing strength in recent years. Perhaps if he hadn’t suddenly appeared, Artoria might have been able to capture the kings before the rebels attacked the city.
As soon as King Arthur left, the city of Carleon, which had few guards, was easily conquered. The hall that was originally the core of the city was left with only the stone that once contained the Sword in the Stone. This stone that was used in Merlin's façade was now being played with by the King of the Hundred Knights like a joke.
The King of the Hundred Knights pulled out his sword and inserted it into the sword mark of the stone. He drew his sword again in full view of everyone.
“See, this is the Chosen One.”
The other party’s voice was mocking, and he waved his hand to split the Chosen Stone into two pieces. The King of the Hundred Knights opened his arms to welcome the laughter around him.
Menachel didn’t say anything. He just stroked the hilt of the sword and watched the cheap circus with a smile in his eyes.
