Chapter 16: Ceremony
🕑 Added 2025-04-13 03:59:40 +0000 UTCThat night, in the main hall in the center of Lothian City.
King Gwyn held his head with a distressed expression.
He kept shouting words like “It’s too risky”. Seeing Chamo coming, King Gwyn raised his head and showed a happy expression as if he had met a savior.
“King, what are you doing…”
Chamo’s face was instantly filled with anger. He had long heard that the King of the Hundred Knights was arrogant. Could it be that his master suffered some kind of insult during the previous meeting between the two kings?
“The King of the Hundred Knights’ plan is too risky.” King Gwyn’s face was full of undisguised worry: “He proposed to take action at King Arthur’s coronation ceremony, and the kings of several of our kingdoms would personally lead their knights to go.”
If it succeeds, it’s fine. If it fails, they will be wiped out by King Arthur.
Hearing this, Chamo’s face became even uglier. Thinking of King Gwyn calling him here and telling him such a top-secret plan, Chamo instantly understood the other party’s intentions.
It Is estimated that Chamo will not be able to escape this bad luck.
But Chamo did not say much. The middle-aged knight frowned and continued with King Gwyn’s words: “This is indeed too risky. Let the king go deep into the enemy camp. Once the matter is exposed, both cities will be ruined.”
“Everything is difficult.”
King Gwyn sighed in a low voice. He agreed to the King of the Hundred Knights in a rush. Now, regretting it will only ruin his reputation.
“What do the other kingdoms say about King Calades?”
“They all agreed.”
King Gwyn held his head. This was also his biggest headache.
The rebellion that several kings discussed together, and now that it’s time, you King Gwyn don’t want to go. We are all kings. Why can you, King Gwyn, get special treatment?
He glanced at the subordinates who had followed him for many years with a little apology: “I’m sorry to implicate you this time.”
Chamo’s nose was sour. The previous fear of death disappeared at this moment. He was now wrapped in great glory. He immediately knelt on one knee, and the armor made a “clang” sound with the ground.
“This is what I should do.”
“What do you think of the new knight, Lord Menachel?”
King Gwyn’s eyes were deep. Based on his many years of experience, the knight who suddenly defected to him must be very powerful, so King Gwyn was willing to let Chamo contact him.
He was not worried that Menachel had ulterior motives. As long as he does a ceremony of knighthood, the other party would be a legitimate knight of King Gwyn. As long as he was labeled as such, if the other party made some terrible actions, his reputation would be ruined.
In this era where reputation is more important than life, knights with damaged reputations will often be despised by people, and no kingdom would be willing to take them in even if they fled.
“Sir Menachel has strong wrist strength and sharp eyesight.” Chamo said as he recalled the scene when Menachel easily took the heavy sword. After a pause, Chamo added his thoughts when talking with Menachel: “He doesn’t even know the King of the Hundred Knights, and he seems to be not very experienced in the world.”
Such a sudden appearance is exactly the same as that King Arthur.
This is Chamo’s voice, but he didn’t say it out loud – it is obvious that King Gwyn wants to use this knight. If he suddenly said this at this time, it would undoubtedly ruin his future.
And according to King Gwyn’s intention, it’s not that Menachel was asked to guard the city wall without military power. No matter how strong a person is, can he be stronger than a fully armed knight battalion?
“Not very experienced in the world, not very experienced is good!” King Gwyn suddenly laughed, not caring about his own demeanor. Not very experienced in the world means that the other party cannot be a spy. In today’s situation, of course, the more such knights, the better.
As for identity, it is originally a matter of unspoken rules. As long as King Gwyn doesn’t pursue it, then the matter will be settled.
Of course, the premise of the matter is that the other party is valuable enough to make King Gwyn’s heart move.
…
So the next morning, Menachel was called to King Gwyn, and in front of him was a priest in a white sleeved robe.
Menachel, who was unfamiliar with the place, had to look for help to the only familiar Chamo.
Chamo, who was standing in front of the left side of the throne, just bowed his head and said nothing, and ignored Menachel’s gaze. He dared not cross the line in front of this almighty being.
Seeing this situation, Menachel had to retract his gaze. He silently lowered his head and emptied his brain, letting the priest chatter on and on.
Menachel had a disdainful attitude towards this ceremony. Chamo had discussed with him in advance that this convenient ceremony that could go from a white body to a knight in one fell swoop. He also knows that wearing a knight’s armor would not make one knight.
If not for this, Menachel would have lost his temper long ago.
Finally, when the priest uttered the word “above”, Menachel raised his head quickly, and his eyes regained some light – until he saw the priest signal King Gwyn, who had been standing in the front, to come and speak.
“In compliance with the will of the Lord, I, King Gwyn, will knight the nobleman Sartish Menachel.”
Although he was confused about when he became a noble, Menachel still knelt on one knee as he had been told in advance, without saying a word.
At this time, King Gwyn reached out his hand and helped Menachel up.
The ceremony was officially over.
Menachel raised his head and saw that the serious expression on the priest’s face immediately collapsed, and Chamo also showed a look of relief.
Obviously, he was the only witness in the true sense just now.
“Sir Menachel, from now on, my life and honor will be entrusted to you.” King Gwyn patted Menachel’s shoulder guard and handed a knight’s rapier to Menachel.
Originally, he should have handed Menachel his sword, but King Gwyn gave up the idea after Chamo's persuasion.
Menachel took the rapier hesitantly, and the moment he held it, he felt a strong sense of discomfort.
It was too light, and too brittle.
He did not notice when King Gwyn left, just as he did not notice when Chamo came.
“Sir Menachel, now I can finally call you Knight Sartish.” Chamo smiled and patted Menachel on the shoulder, but he did not talk much this time.
This was totally out of character for Chamo.
So that afternoon, less than two hours after the initiation ceremony, Menachel received a conscription order from King Gwyn.
Menachel stared at the two swords in a daze.
So the question is, should he take the knight’s sword given by King Gwyn?
[T/N: Some of you might be pissed at the mc for accepting the knighthood, but you see in our dumb mc's perspective, he didn’t know that Artoria was the heir of Camelot. So he's planning to the kingdom to try and find her. Mc is still loyal to Artoria.]
