An updated Renpy version is out for those who are not much into Rpg Maker. You can find it in the main release post here.
At the moment it's just a port made by Osmcuser132. There are versions for PC, MAC and Android. It's not perfect as there should be made additional renders, but so far everything runs fine. If you will like it, we might work further to make it even better.

I played the renpy after making this comment, and I gotta say: JPG compression definitely looks better than the upscaled PNG's the base game uses. Honestly though, I'd love a version of the game with, at least, 2k renders.... those hair follicles turn me on xD

No, they are almost the same quality. Thing is that rpg maker works with png files that are a lot bigger than jpg.

Are the render resolutions significantly lower in the renpy version?

Renpy is a different engine. There is no walking on the map. Scenes are played out one after another. Choices are still there though and will impact further gameplay.
So what on earth is the difference between what I’m referring to as the normal game and Renpy?
