I'm struggling... HOLY!! The fact is Spain is leading me to an completely different exercise than usual. Designing from scracth is one thing. But REdesigning a character that already has its own purpose, story, personality forces me to take in count a lot of settings people might underestimate.
I cant pick features/colors/accessories that won't match her traits. The main issue I had with the first design was Spain not feeling like a warrior at all, mostly because of her skirt. How was she even supposed to move in that thing? Can't run, can't jump, ...
To fix this, I basically gave her half a skirt lol, allowing more agility. Her fighting style being based on Flamenco steps, her moves must feel gracious, majestic and even hypnotizing. Which is why I need some sort of long piece of fabric floating, emphazing her movements.
"Oh so you're telling us you want the outfits to be practical but somehow she's wearing heels now??", well yes. I want every single one of my characters to look different but mostly FEEL different (especially if they are from the same Division).
U.K is the main swordswoman of Europe squad. She's fast, agile and uses her blades to slice. Spain's main category isn't swordsman. As such she isnt as talented as her team mate and doesnt even rely on it. But when she does, she uses a more static fighting style. Being quite slow Spain doesnt run around like a mad lad, instead she stands her ground piercing through her target multiple times in a matter of seconds.
I wanted to express this with this pose and hig heels making her look like a bipod you'd attach to assault rifles. Just to make people feel she's not going anywhere, you would have to go over her dead body.
Her power system stays the same but exactly like I did for France, I'm showing her technique on her main artwork when it wasnt visible before. Indeed if you didnt read caption back then, you probably dont even know what France & Spain do lol.
Tbh I thought I would change her face even just a little but nah. I really like her round expressive eyes, her basic 20yo face shape, her horns, etc. Her haircut just gives her one of the strongest silhouette of the entire cast so of course it stays too, I'm simply making sure it's more compressible now (it was kinda inconsistent).
Fun fact: Spain will be the only CW artwork with depth and perspective (I avoid it usually cause otherwise I cannot do mashups of several character on a single canvas without creating an absolute mess). Just know it's related to her powers.
Anyway, going back to work (spent the whole night on it but I can't rest otherwise it will never be done by Sunday lol).
Oh, forgot to adress the elephant in the room: OF COURSE I never ever planned to nerf Spain lmao. People gonna lose their mind on Sunday I can't wait to read the "our national treasure is back!!" xD
Just you wait, tomorrow I'll keep pushing it in my story, saying the front view of Spain is way better and nerfing her was the good call lol.

I'm glad choice A won. It's the good call, like you said, having long fabrics make her more elegant and in sync with her personality and powers. Can't wait to see the final result ^^
