I really do love this series since there is nothing quite like it so I hate to be a downer but fuck, you really must be a sadist, or your readers must be masochists at this point. I want to point out that the rate at which the Bornish have developed their naval warfare technology is pretty unbelievable, since (from what I understand) they aren't yet in the industrial revolution, so their population will be fairly small, and the transfer of knowledge and technology will be poor and slow, musch less the adaptation of said technology. So how have they managed to make such great leaps and bounds in both guns and ships, that they are almost on par with wikipedia head Corvo? In ten years they went from a world of regular old wooden battleships armed with bows and what not to seemingly nineteenth century armadas. The only two explanations I can think of are 1.) there is someone like Corvo helping them which even if there was I would still be calling bs since the odds of that are pretty long. 2.) Author magic, in order for the stakes to be kept high you are intentionally making the adversaries stronger than they should rightly be and devaluating the strength that Corvo ought to have. I'm not particularly talented in much outside computer engineering so I'm a novice to many ideas you touch on in this work, but I feel that with the incredible knowledge that Corvo has he should be at a greater advantage right? I mean he is a native to his world and culture, so he doesn't have the disadvantages of an Isekai protagonist or time traveler and whatnot, and he is in a position of power where he has the authority and strength to implement the technology he has stored in his brain. All I can see holding him back are his followers not being 100% loyal, and his own limits of morality. What I'm asking is where is the mustard gas? If you havent you should read “How to Invent Everything” https://download.dries007.net/How_to_Invent_Everything-A_Survival_Guide.pdf Since most of this knowledge should be known to Corvo, there are so many more things he could be easily working on that could completely give him an advantage. In the real world when to nation competed with one another, a smaller nation with a slight tech advantage could dominate its opponents with ease (see having an iron vs steel weapon) and Corvo doesn't have one advantage, he has an uncountable number of them, dozens of civilizations worth of geniuses and brilliant thinkers, all of their collective knowledge is at his fingertips, and this is it? He is in the perfect position and with each day his advantage should grow tremendously. Keep up the good work though, I am loving it.
