Art advice to new artists
🕑 Added 2024-09-07 17:36:58 +0000 UTCDisclaimer: I don't think I'm the best at art technically and I've got a lot to learn myself so don't take me as an authority in these matters. I'm not an art teacher, an this is all merely my own musings about things.

I've been thinking about how I deal with people asking me for art advice.
I tend to base my guidance/critique to the questioner's level (or more like my perception of it). Also in consideration of what I deem your art goals are; different goals, different paths. I'm not going to force my level nor my vision onto you.
One way I gauge this is of course my own observation. But aside from visual observation, there isn't much to be discerned in terms of what your actual art goals are.
Following that, the 2nd important gauge is, and I think this is very important if you wanna ask for help about your art: The questions you ask.
If you ask very generic questions, what it says is that you haven't thought enough about your own art to inform yourself what you'd like to do with it. So naturally I don't think there's much to say there if you just come to someone much better asking a general question. It's not practical to brood about it excessively without getting some experience.
This is why advise such as "Draw more" make sense. I'd add, "Observe and think more as you draw".
Resources are abound nowadays. You just gonna be resourceful and scour the internet a little for good ones. There are a lot of people suggesting excellent collections of guides to use out there as well.
What's left is, the tenacity to keep at it!
So if you'd like to learn art, my advise really is really just draw a lot! Have fun with it so you don't get burned out! Learn as you go. Find stuff you feel you're weak at in the drawings you've done & learn how to improve them. That way, yes, you'll have real, impactful questions to ask better artists to help you with~
All the best ✨
