Not connected to this episode but: you both recently discussed wind shear, fuel management etc. and talked about air over the wing being the only important thing (versus ground speed). On a recent flight we had quite a tailwind in cruise. I got to thinking, do you have to burn MORE fuel with a tailwind, for thrust to compensate for the net loss of airspeed? That would seem super counterintuitive. Or, does the force acting from the tailwind on the airframe effectively push the plane faster through the air enough to overcome the negative speed from the tailwind? The whole concept is very confusing to a novice, at least this one....
