I like to imagine that rather than being worried this version of Astarion was going to be impossible to trust, they did a quick little beta test on audiences. And they just decided that hearing about wanting to use the texture on Astarion's skin like a cheese grater was NOT the horny screeching they were down for. Probably ended it after the 3rd "why doesn't he have a barbed dick" comment and just made him an elf.
