Finally this week... I'm officially free to dig in drawing things(Yayyyπ) I haven't drawn something ever since I wrote the script...and... I had trial and error to make progress in this preproduction step. But now I see that our boat is moving forward! I'm happier than ever recently π₯Ί
This week, as I mentioned earlier, I'm going to explain more about the "image classification" process! I'll share a small example of a Piper script as well.

1. Kick-off

*I split them into four steps, but each process works like a cycle. So it's more like following our thoughts subconsciously π€

1. Kick Off
Firstly, 'Kick off' is like writing useful memos on a script. Because we usually make images combining information.
At this step, I prefer to organize these four things in the texts
1Background / 2Props / 3Purpose / 4Change point of emotion
You can pick out whatever information you need freely, and it will make the work go faster later on!

2. Thumbnail
This stage is a process that is done alongside the kickoff! The key is to draw it really roughly! Draw it so that only you can understand it. If you get too detailed, you'll become fixated on the "drawing" itself. Draw it loosely, but creatively turn the text into a picture!

3. Storyboard
In the storyboard stage, you organize the sketches that were selected from the thumbnails better! This stage is mainly for drawing things to explain to others. So when you're working alone, you don't have to go into that much detail. However, as each line becomes more specific, you can add more details that you didn't do during the thumbnail stage, and you can see the text and directorial work together! For example, if there are stairs on the left side of the stage, the character should be able to do the choreography there! If the building is boring, put a flowerpot in front of it! Stuff like that.
(And if we draw more inbetween and edit it, it becomes animatic eventually!)

4. Concept art
Concept art is simply "design"! There are concept artists who only handle backgrounds and characters, and there are concept artists who set the overall style. In the animation industry, they usually look at thumbnails or storyboard sketches and then design. Since I'm working alone, there's a downside that I can't do it at the same time as the other work. But on the other hand, there's an advantage that I don't need to explain and deliver the storyboard and work to others! So I'm going to continue to develop it while doing research with other works :) It's definitely much easier than when I wanted to draw from scratch without anything! (If you're working alone, I recommend this order!)
