Elephants and Serval
🕑 Added 2024-04-12 20:25:01 +0000 UTCThis pic ended up evolving significantly. After trying a few different things, I thought it'd be interesting to try making the pic feel more crowded by only showing parts of the elephants, having them pressing in from all sides. So you get more of an impression of them rather than seeing all of them. I don't push my images this way so it was fun to try.
It also occurred to me that it's rather similar to the original one with the zebras and lion. I realized I probably could've made the entire series about big cat preds being overwhelmed by larger herbivore prey and that would've been a little more thematically coherent. x) (And also hot) But that's okay I like what I've done so far too.

Haha exactly! x) I like to imagine a distant rumbling as more and more elephants approach~

Ooh the framing and composition of this one is great!!

Lucky kitty! And the cramped framing's really nice, could be five elephants, could be five-hundred, the only limit is your IMAGINATION

Thanks! I had that same thought as I was drawing it, that it was like he was in a cave. So I'm glad that came across :> And of course, like all the critters I draw, he's quite stretchy~ And he's also into it even if he looks surprised

It really does make it seem VERY overwhelming, indeed O:

This is amazing, Pulsar. Setting aside the horny subject matter, which I do love, the way you handled shading and light in this piece is really striking. All that elephant could have blended into a wash of gray, but you didn't let that happen, and having the light source come in at an angle really gives a sense of depth and of how the elephants LOOM over their guest. At first glance it's like a cave of flesh. This being a smaller cat only accentuates the size difference. I do hope there's some extra capacity for squash and stretch on that serval's side. Cats are non-Newtonian, right?

Thanks! :> I kinda want to do at least one more with 'phants too~

I wonder how many this lil guy can fit at once~

You know you’re a furry when “serval” gets auto-corrected to “sergal”

Thank you so much! I was a little concerned with trying something new that people might not be into it as much. So that's great to hear :>

i think the choice to tighten up the frame definitely enhances the sense of being completely surrounded by and subsumed into elephant bodies... easily one of my megafauna favorites (and the series is so good -- that's a hard list to get onto!)
