Sometimes, I forget things.
🕑 Added 2025-03-06 07:25:02 +0000 UTCSo, like most people, I occasionally forget things. As I tried and failed to write through another migraine tonight, I realized this all felt familiar. I was chalking up these more frequent migraines to the weather, which really is a trigger for me. But, so is eye strain. And here we come to the crux of the matter. I realized that I haven’t had an eye exam or glasses prescription update in at least two years. Maybe longer. The last time I was having this many migraines, I needed new glasses. And I’m pretty sure eye strain is at the heart of the matter again this time.
So, I’ll be scheduling an eye exam as soon as I can and getting new glasses. With any luck, I can get it done in the next few days, get some glasses made fast, and the problem will resolve itself. If I’m not lucky, it might take a couple weeks before a slot opens up for an exam. Its hard to know.
I just ask you to bear with me if I’m a little less productive than than usual. Migraines are a kind of soul-draining misery it’s hard to convey to anyone who hasn’t had them. The best way I can think to describe it is this. Imagine getting stabbed in the eye…for hours, followed by feeling mentally hungover and physically exhausted for 12-24 hours. And I’ve had four or five of them over the last 10 days or so.
Also, on the day of the exam, I probably won’t write anything. For those of you blessed with good vision, an eye exam includes putting drops in your eyes that dilate your pupils. It’s so they can get a look at your optic nerve and make sure it’s healthy. That’s all great, but I’m very reactive to those drops. My pupils will stay dilated the rest of the day, which makes staring at a screen, at best, a poor idea. Anyway, I will keep you all updated on Great Eye Exam Saga as it unfolds.

im somehow lucky in that my prescription, minor as it is, hasnt changed for over 20 years. You should try to find a doctor that has a retinal scanner, basically a big camera that takes a picture of the inside of your eye so you don't need to do the drops. I had to find a new eye doctor years ago when my insurance changed with employers and the new one had one. its an increase in the fee for the visit, but well worth the extra 25$ to not get my eyes dilated when i do go in.
