🕑 Added 2024-05-06 17:10:58 +0000 UTCOkay, so no one is surprised. I will be turning off comments on all new Unintended Cultivator chapters for a while.

I took a break around chapter 66 and come back to..... what? I fail to see any problems for people to complain about.... alao im confused about how much time has passed in chapter three of volume 9.

We're they really that long? Wow it seemed to fly by. I've always been a fast reader so I personally like the longer chapters as long as they don't meander too much, but those must've just been good enough to seem short lol. All fair points, and I understand your reasoning, especially about it kind of helping ensure you stick to the point.
Eric Dontigney
If they were a single chapter, it would have been close to 4000 words long. Given that I try to make sure no chapter ever goes over 2500 words, that was just a no-go. Why 2500 words? Most people read these things in a digital form. I've found that 2500 words per chapter is generally the hard cap for people's attention spans when reading in ebook form. I don't understand the psychology of it, but people just like/pay better attention when chapters are on the shorter side. It also forces me to be disciplined about getting to the point. The chapters I've been least happy with over the series are typically the ones that crept up toward 3000 words.

Great, now what do I do when I have questions about the story? Seems odd to me, considering most comments I see are overwhelmingly positive or theories or like, editing suggestions. But whatever. Anyway, since this is the only place I can put this. Loved the first two chapters in Vol 9. They might work better as a single chapter, but good regardless. I do wonder if Sen will start to actually figure out what's going on with his cultivation. The double helix and 6 fold path. It's kinda crazy he got all the way to Nascent Soul in body without understanding it, but I can't imagine he'll be able to ascend like that right?

Love you UwU, books good, i see no issues with it. If people want to be critics about benign and non constructive things they should go write their own story. This one is yours and I’m grateful you’re sharing it with us.
Nathan V
Ok. Hope you're good. Take care of yourself Eric.

Damn, what the hell happened?

You are not wrong, but sometimes, an author needs to safeguard their mental well being and do whatever they need to do so they can focus on their writing. Often, comments that aren't meant to be mean can still drain the writer emotionally. I wish Mr. Dontigney well in whatever measures he needs to take to allow him to reach those goals. Anything that helps and doesn't harm is good.
Joe
My apologies as well if I contributed to it all. Do whatever you need to so you can focus on your writing. Great story so far.

Had to scroll a bit to find out way and it’s what I expected, I don’t get why people pay you for a fantastic story, then insult you over it. It’s bizarre to me. YOU ARE A WONDERFUL AUTHOR! AND PERSON (in regards to the interactions we’ve had) HAVE FUN AND REMEMBER WE DO RESPECT AND APPRECIATE THIS STORY
Eric Dontigney
Nah, I still don't empathize with Zogarth. He brought all of that down on his own head. He was getting exactly the same complaint from lots of different people over the course of a hundred chapters. That's a sign that there's a legitimate problem with the narrative. If I'd been getting the exact same complaints from everyone, I would have been looking hard at where I had taken and was planning on taking the story, not ignoring everyone until I felt the need to start yelling "fuck off" at my patrons.

At least one person is surprised. I rarely click out of the emails to patreon's awful website but it is valuable to be able to interact and maybe point out the occasional typo :/
Abdulaziz ALRumaih
I’d ask if you emphasize with Zogarth a bit more now His reaction was extreme But I get it What he basically said is if you don’t like it gtfo PS: keep up with amazing work please the vast majority of us are enjoying it

Hi Eric, dun usually comment but had to after seeing this post. Unintended Cultivator is a wonderful story of growth and self discovery that has in fact imparted some bits of wisdom that I actually try to apply in my own life. Just wanted to put it out here and let you know that I got your back regardless. Have a great rest ahead :)
Krystle Arnold
I don’t normally comment But I love your stories and hope you continue writing The highlight of my day is when you post new chapters
BelligerentGnu
Just want to apologize if my last comment contributed to the problem. Your writing is a consistently makes my day better when your chapters pop up in my feed.
Michael Marcin
The book is good bro
Newbie_101
You know I greatly enjoy this story and its progression and I just want to read more of it! If comments are making it harder, than that's how it is.
M Schweibold
I haven’t nor do I read comments. Here is mine: Eric you are a brilliant writer. Thank you for sharing your gift. Don’t change. Your interpersonal character writing is absolutely superb and an anomaly for this genre.
HunterIV4
My comment on chapters for now will just be a like =). I love this story and honestly I feel like I get more value out of it than any of my other subscriptions. Your produce new content, and *high quality* content, at a truly astounding rate. I know there's a lot of negativity out there, and it can get to you, but I wanted to make sure you knew a lot of us really appreciate the hard work. Thank you!
Andrew
Good call. Write your story

Totally get it, I trust where you're taking us with the story and character development 🙏🏼. My apologies if what I said contributed, it certainly was not my intention to take any shots at you as an author.
Mortamir
Wasn't able to see those comments but it's better this way if it's getting toxic. Take care of yourself Eric
Thaco4
Enjoying the story. I'm just glad to be here. I lurk anyways so just letting you know I think you're great!
Skanda
Oi listen here ya dipshits that lead to this. I'm not normally a commenter I just read quietly. Eric is super consistent and the best author on patreon as far as consistency and updates go in my opinion. If y'all cause this man to reduce the frequency of his posts due to your whinging comments, that affects my enjoyment. Pull ya heads in ya gronks
Sanctum
Love your story Eric. Please keep writing, and take what steps you need to keep your spark healthy.
Tommy
I apologise if I was part of the problem. I comment on a lot of stuff so can’t be sure if it was me - but generally I tend to comment leaning towards the characters and their interactions (not behaviour as I’d written before) more than the writing I think so hopefully not part of the problem. In any case, if you prefer no comments it’s all good. Mental health comes first! 👍 Edit to add: ahhh I was playing catch up - just read the previous couple chapters and comments here, and can figure out what happened. Sorry you had to deal with that ❤️
Magisch
I think this is pretty sad but ultimately you have to make the decisions best for your mental wellbeing. I'm here for the quality story content so i'll continue to be here, even if being able to make quips and giggle at Sen things was a fun pasttime while waiting for the next chapter. I like the fact that you think far enough ahead and that Sen is intelligent enough to actually consider long term implications, and that you don't just fade to black things that could get uncomfortable as a result.
Jeremiah Paltridge
I don't often comment, but you are one of the most prolific and consistently quality writers that I follow. Your grasp of world building, characterization, and the struggles of a real and messy world are exceptional. Don't let the haters get you down. We are here for your ride, wherever it goes. To all the haters, go write your own book. Don't try to backseat drive.
CentaureHeart
Sorry about that! Mental health is more important. Take care!
Yvonne Krueger
You are an amazing writer and I am sorry that people cannot be more respectful.
Inner peace
Fucking cowards just remove those hating cunts bro I’m sorry you have to deal with weirdo’s
Null_is_Void
Heck yha shut em off do what you need to. Some people are just awful.
Eric Dontigney
This isn't about one comment today. This has been coming for a while. There's been a steady rise in un-constructive comments and comments that are basically just shots at me. I just hit my limit with them today.
Marvin bennett
I'm so lost as to why this is happening i haven't even read the chapters from today or last 12 hours
Brisyngr
Maybe you could make a post afetr every mini arc with comments enabled. Would bundle feedback and hopefully improve the quality of feedback and lessen the toxic emotionaly charged comments
Weldt
Well have been reading other books past week but I do understand go write your book it's been good keep it up
Magisch
Tbh Sen handled that just about as well as can be done without just deferring the problem to later. Ofc he can't just punt those kids somewhere and completely ignore them, a significant chunk of them would dedicate their lives to getting back at him.
Vaughn Fredericks
I will miss being able to comment, but I completely understand.
Eric Dontigney
If it was just one or two people all the time, I'd do exactly that. But it's not. Different people get aggravated by different things. The problem is that ALL of those comments come to just one person. Me. It adds up after a while.
Erik Van Norstrand
Might be worth just removing the assholes that are giving you a hard time. Honestly if they don’t like the story, that can stop being a patron. I’m sorry that people have you shit, I love your stories
Barbara Collier
Sorry for stupid Eric.
Ripstick 12
Fair enough, toxic, shortsighted comments are never fun to deal with.
Jason Hardman
Guessing someone crossed a line?
Hasse
Yesss Nuke the comments from orbit everyone gets a tungsten rod!
Corac
While I'll miss the comments for the most part....I'm here for the story, not what everyone else thinks of it. I haven't read the last 3-4 chapters yet as I am wanting to save some for a boring drive later today so I'm sure I'll see what this is about then
Eric Dontigney
The number of un-constructive comments and comments that are basically just pot shots at me has been on the rise for a while. I'm no more emotionally immune to having people take a shit on my work than anyone else. At the very least, it doesn't make me eager to write more. And it's been happening on the daily recently. So, I'm turning off comments for a while.
Sid
I never get that. Like its a character experiencing growth or in a new kind of situation. You can't expect someone stay the same or not do something out of character the whole time. Either way you keep doing you Eric! Love the story.
Tim Miller
But like, there was nothing bad in that chapter. No violence, no threats of violence. Just discipline and rules. Hell, my dad was rougher on me at that age.
Neal Callahan
Personally I like the fact that Sen finds himself in situations where hes forced to do "the best he can" rather than "perfectly solve the problem"
Bunny Waffles
What's going on? Are people getting snippy in the comments? I mean I know anything to do with kids is a thing, but this IS a natural consequence that Sen was gonna have to deal with when it came to un-noble-ing a clan and the resulting aftermath, especially since he can't Heaven's Pact them when there is a certain level of self understanding required for it to actually take effect. No answer is gonna be perfect, and Sen ain't the type to murder a bunch of children just cause they might cause issues down the line.
Abdulaziz ALRumaih
Probably
Lurker
😑 fluffy critters for the win.
Magisch
I assume people lost their damn mind over the chapter where Sen has to play the bad guy to the children.
Keeley Wilkinson
Hope all is well, thanks
Andrew Jones
why?
