Possible encounter
For many, many years, the inhabitants of the surrounding mountains have come to this altar to make sacrifices to their goddess. Now even pilgrims from far away countries climb the steep mountain passes to get to this place. It is said that goddess gives her most ardent admirers the temporary ability to fly.
Our heroes cross the bridge and join the long line of pilgrims. Suddenly they witness a miracle. A man begins to hover and then flies around the mountain in impressive maneuvers. The people are happy and watch enthusiastically. Someone is chosen every few days. The man makes a particularly daring maneuver and the crowd runs to the bridge to see better. Some bump into each other or stumble. In the middle of his maneuver, the man suddenly loses his ability to fly and hits the ground at high speed. He and one other person die gruseome.
What happened: There were con artists aktive, among them a powerful elemental magician. The "miracle" attracts a great many people to this shrine and after each performance people leave large amounts of offerings. In the night the impostors come back and collect the offerings.
When the crowd exposes this scam, the mood becomes very irritable. They want to throw the scammers down the cliff. These in turn are stronger and especially the magician is able to let go of great destruction. How will our heroes act?
Addition: At the height of a fight the blessing of the goddess could actually work and let fly those who act in her name.
