Life update โ New kitten! ๐พ
🕑 Added 2025-03-08 02:53:33 +0000 UTCTL;DR: I got a new kitten, my routine has been total chaos, I disappeared for a bit, but Iโm slowly getting back to reality. Let me explain everything in detail! ๐

Hey patronites! ๐ฅฐ I have some news to share ๐ฅบ (that you might have already seen on IG)
Our family has grown! โค๏ธ We got a new kitten, and her name is Gao!๐
I had actually already planned on getting a second cat and had pre-reserved a kitten from the same cattery where I got Dasha. But at the time, there were no available kittens, so I was just waiting for a new litter.
Then, I started feeling like Dasha really needed a companion. She was getting more and more lonely and needy, and I could tell she was craving company ๐ญ Thatโs when I decided to cancel my pre-reservation and look for a kitten that could join us right away. And then, something unexpected happenedโฆ
The breeder told me that one kitten had been left behind because the original adopter had to move abroad and couldnโt pick her up ๐ฅบ Gao was waiting for a home all these months, and everything seemed to fall into place at the perfect time.
โ More coincidences that made this feel like fate โจ
I had already noticed Gao in the breederโs Instagram posts before, because I loved her mom and thought the kittens were adorable ๐ฅบ
Just a week before talking to the breeder, I randomly told Edu, "What if we got a Siamese instead of an Oriental?" (And guess what? Gao is a Siamese ๐ค)
Dasha and Gao have the same father! So, theyโre actually half-sisters ๐ฅบ
I messaged the breeder the day before the scheduled pet transport, which only happens once a month!!! If I had waited any longer, I would have had to wait another whole month to bring her home
The pet transport company is actually from Caxias do Sul, and the last stop on their route was here!
Gao arrived on a holiday (Carnival), which meant we had plenty of time to focus on her adjustment ๐ฅบ if it happened at any other time, it would be much more complicated
So thatโs how Gao came home! Sheโs a BluePoint Siamese (Oriental Shorthair), quite big for her age, with a little droopy-eyed expression ๐ฅบ and a deep, raspy meow that weirdly reminds me of a crow ๐ And why "Gao" you may ask? Because her first meows sounded like she was saying โGyaohโ That was literally the inspiration for her name ๐ lmao
Anyways... Even though I was really happy that Gao was finally here, I felt so weird emotionally on the first day. It was likeโฆ nothing felt real ๐
I had Lia for so long that bringing a new animal into the family without introducing them to her just felt wrong somehow. The dynamic in the house changed completely, and I felt overwhelmed ๐ญ
Abrupt changes in my routine completely throw me off, and I need structure to feel grounded. Not having Lia here to help me adjust... to bring that comfort and sense of reality that she always did, made everything harder ๐ When I feel this way, I lose my sense of direction completely. Even basic daily tasks feel confusing, and I struggle to complete them properly. Itโs frustrating and hard to explain, but thatโs how my brain works ๐
Luckily, with each passing day, Iโve been settling into a new rhythm with Dasha and Gao. Itโs still an adjustment, but I know itโll be worth it in the end.
But moving back to the topic, today we had a huge milestone! ๐ For the first time, I left them in the same room together! I opened the kitchen door and let Gao explore the rest of the house ๐ There were good moments and bad moments, but overall, we made A LOT of progress today! ๐ฅน Seeing them slowly getting used to each other gives me hope that theyโll find their balance soon โค๏ธ
This whole process has definitely affected my week a lot. Between keeping an eye on both cats, making sure Gao is adjusting well, and ensuring Dasha doesnโt feel left out, Iโve been exhausted ๐ญ But itโs also been exciting, and I know itโll be worth it once they become friends (or at least tolerate each other lol ๐ )
Iโll keep you all updated on how things go! Wish me luck with this introduction process because Iโm gonna need it ๐
Have you ever introduced new cats before? Let me know if you have any tips! ๐
