🕑 Added 2024-03-28 10:36:52 +0000 UTCSurprise! Released earlier than promised! I must say, this takes the immersion to the next level.
Like mentioned earlier, this was my weekend test and nothing more. I was curious to check out if in the future I can add this feature to upcoming games. If you don’t have Quest3 or Quest2, this is totally useless crap for you; it doesn’t work with any other headsets.
Requirements: PC, cable and Quest3. Quest2 not tested.
How does it work?
The videos from the headset cameras are fed into the Unity. Inside Unity, I have 2 spheres, one visible for each eye. I render on top of the camera feed the actual video, which can be any 180 degree SBS-clip. The magic comes with masking; Only partial video is visible, so at the same time you can see your room and the video clip. The masking partially follows your gaze.
I have lots of adjustments to make scale and size 1:1 accurate, and the strength & position of the mask can be changed. Inside the game folder is a PDF explaining bit more. Read it, so you understand what to do! Every change you make is saved to a .txt file to the videos folder. This way your next run remembers your settings for each video.
When firing up the scene, the first thing to see is the button layout. Just hit “space” and have fun!
You can add feature requests to this post, and please give feedback how it works! I have no idea when I will do something more with this small project.
Update, this is now without tiers. Not my core stuff, just fun and games.
Happy Easter!

make sure the passthrough works before starting the player. Also, read the codec setup from whirligig.xyz.

Im just ending up with a white screen, and im running a quest3

I got rid of the glitches by using the cable. Wifi can't keep up with the data transfer. I'll add your ideas to my to-do list.

I’m going to try it now…I’m very curious.

Tested this today with Quest Pro, it works! The video is glitchy so I will have to check codecs. Jari, would it be possible to add an option to replace the pass through background with fractal zooms or hypno spirals?
Jari Vuoristo
Nope.

Is this a joke?
