Here is the private YouTube link for this video:

The Iliad is not a true story, it's an epic poem and fully fictional. The original story even features the Greek gods as characters interfering in the plot. Odysseus (Sean Bean's character) is the hero of Homer's next poem, The Odyssey which has Cyclops and Sirens etc. The idea of the film was the to take the Iliad as a jumping off point for a classic sword and sandals Hollywood epic following the success of Gladiator a few years prior. The film was written by David Benioff, one the main producers of Game of Thrones. The score was from James Horner who did Avatar (as well as Titanic and Aliens for James Cameron). He passed away in 2015 when he had an accident flying a small plane. He was very talented with a really recognisable style. I really love his work on The Mask of Zorro. I've always enjoyed this film. It's very big and melodramatic but in a way I find enjoyable. The wars and duel scenes are spectacular and it has a fantastic cast. Eric Bana as Hector in particular is a standout. Christopher Nolan is currently filming his version of The Odyssey with Matt Damon as Odysseus for next year. I'm eagerly anticipating it.
