Episode 7 was storyboarded by Shūto Enomoto, who was involved in Heavenly Delusion, as well as the animation director from Witch From Mercury on what I think is probably the most memorable episode. Kensuke Ushio's music (guy who did the music for the pool scene in Reze Arc, along with a ton of other fantastic stuff) absolutely brought it together too. They brought in a special team for this episode, which isn't to say the rest of the staff isn't doing fantastic - but yeah, I think they handled this story with all kinds of care.

In case you missed it, yes your initial thoughts on what the money on the tabletop was correct. She did everything she could to pay the bills, keep food on the table and pay her debts. Wasn't enough though.
