It's alot of tropes taken to extremes, and when your at those extremes, different people's experience/enjoyment of the show will be equally polarising, personally I found it had a bit of a slow start then quickly was very very fun, and s2 I didn't think much of because it focused alot on side chracters in a way that made the ironic tropes feel unironic at times, leading to it being a bit boring, felt like filler actually, but I'm looking forward to the movie.

Why do you have to be insulting? I watched season 1 and few eps of s2 and I quit. As I don't find it entertaining. Maybe it if it only focused on the MC and how chuni he is, it would be more fun. Instead it tried too many things for my taste.

I am at the age where I can't stand power fantasies with ridiculous fanservice anymore so yeah, I can't really bring myself to like Eminence in shadow as well.

Some people tend to be shortsighted when it comes to Eminence. It reminds me of the people I know who hate Mushoku because of Rudy and can't enjoy anything else in the series because of him. I don't understand why some who enjoy Tee's content can't enjoy Eminence for the dual entertainment it provides. If all you care about is the comedy, the MC is the center of all of it, so enjoy that aspect. If all you care about is a solid story with serious plot, every single character outside of Cid, Skel and Po actively participate in one. Both entertainment categories are there on full display. I think both aspects are complimentary and thoroughly enjoy it. If you can't handle an MC who unknowingly participates in the main story, then I guess it's not for you.

I’d third this, I was disappointed last year when he chose Made in Abyss over OnK and would be great for him to catch up with season 2 popping off like it is. But he has been watching and editing a lot of heavy shows recently.

I think I could say it like this. Every show on this list is good but I would argue 100 GFs has the highest rate of fans who dislike it’s standard genre that love the show. Like SxF & Masterful Cat aren’t going to change your mind if you don’t like SoL. Hinamatsuru won’t change your mind if you don’t like comedies that are also the cute girls doing cute things subgenre. If you don’t like Yuri shows, Lycoris Recoil may not be for you. If you don’t like slow burn romances you won’t like Dangers and same for angsty shoujo and Fruits Basket. I’ve never experienced a recent anime like 100GFs where I know and have talked to people that hate its genre. Whether it’s anime romance, harems in general, self-aware 4th wall parodies, or trashy ecchi shows that love 100 GFs. Plus, while Tee may not care too much, the overall view numbers on the channel may go up with season 2 airing in January which would make the watch along an actual seasonal follow.

I read up to latest translated volume 8 (9th just came out). Romance develops but it's quite dragged out like from Heisei-era, they still aren't dating.

Idk how far you got in the light novel but the romance develops a lot. Even in season 1 the romance is going somewhere. Plus its funny asl. I cant say anymore with spoiling. Idk what theme you're talking about but if you are talking about the theme of the list Teeaboo gave us then im confused. There is no theme in the list 😅 At the end of the day, its personal preference.

You could take it seriously if you wanted. Every character in the show other than the MC is actively pursuing a serious plot. You can enjoy the comedy aspects the MC brings while also enjoying the story the MC is oblivious to.

Hinamatsuri is absolutely hilarious with some great heartwarming moments too. I dunno about it being great reaction/analysis material, but I think that would go for other shows on the list too.

There’s no bad options on this list, but I think The 100 Girlfriends is the only one that hits all of the beats of being incredibly funny, cute/fluffy, romantic, with some really well animated scenes. Coupled with its 4th wall breaks and trope awareness. It may offer the most of any of the shows. Plus the 2nd season starts on Jan 5th, so if he starts it now, this S1 watch would end right around the start of S2. Which would make for an easy 24 episode watch. A lot of these shows could be put into smaller polls based on genre. Stuff like Dangers & Fruits Basket fits in more romance, Mr. Cat is more SoL, Hinamatsuri is more comedy, Lycoris Recoil & Eminence fit more into action.

Lots of good series here. 100 girlfriends, hell yeah and it's closer to theme of cute, funny and fluffy al the time while being a Bobobo/Gintama like meta-comedy. Hinamatsuri is hilarious comedy as well, though too bad it didn't not get continuation. Eminence is really funny chuuni actions series. Fruits Basket is kinda a long journey, worth it but requires a serious investment. Dangers is praised middleschool romcom with character progression, won't be a bad pick either.
