Ros was beating up Subaru because he knows Subaru can loop, but he doesn't know the mechanism of how he loops. He thought by beating up Subaru that maybe he could get him to choose to loop. Ros doesn't seem to know Subaru has to die otherwise he probably would have killed him lol.

Ep 10 and 11 are, by far, the worst timelines in the show. Broken Emilia, her mind shattered giving the dying Subaru her (and his) first kiss, Roswaal's brutal killing of Garf, Beatrice's assassination at the hands of the seemingly invinvible Elsa, the reveal of Maylie... Man, Subaru boldly said "I know hell," and the writer went "Bet."

Roswaal beats the shit out of subaru for 2 reasons. He's annoyed at him for messing it up over and over and because he doesn't know how return by death works. Also he is best character, at least untill much later on (arc 7), for me.
