I don't blame you at the end for missing this BUT.. at the end, when Andrew asks Dr. Sheehan whether it would be worse to live as a monster or die as a free man, that implies that he actually didn't regress. He's just pretending and he's willing to have himself lobotomized so once and for all he can forget about the things that happened to his wife and children. Notice that when Andrew walks off, Sheehan calls him Teddy, but Andrew doesn't respond. So he's not living in his fantasy world at that time.

I saw this around the time it came out and liked it then, now seeing again I might like it more. I think the ending is clearer to me too, I definitely lean on him choosing his fate.

May I ask? What did you like about that movie?

One of my favorite Scorsese films. Can't wait to re-watch this with you guys later tonight. :)
