The Merchant calling the Cellphone a crystal light instead of a Metia isn't because of a translation change. The Merchant is referring to a type of crystal called 'Lagmite ore'. It's a white crystal that emits a white light when held. It's often used as a torch and you can see Subaru use this when entering Old Rom's Shack where he encounters Rom's corpse and dies for the first time. The Merchant probably thought it was a type of Lagmite ore due to Subaru using it as a source of light.

Why? He’s obviously an important figure in the world of re zero same with the sage, the dragon and the hero who sealed Satella I wouldn’t say it’s a spoiler unless it spoils future events or how and when a character will be involved further down the line
