I was told that I don't draw lain's bear pajamas very often, so
🕑 Added 2025-07-29 14:05:39 +0000 UTCI have classes at a university in Kobe starting tomorrow. Right now, I'm taking a break at a hotel a little ways away from the university. I thought I might be able to draw a little at the hotel after class, so I brought some art supplies with me. This is something I drew with a mechanical pencil on Traveler's Notebook drawing paper or watercolor paper.
Since there aren't many drawings of lain in her bear pajamas, someone requested that I draw one if I had the chance, so I gave it a try. The bear pajamas were an idea by animation character designer Kishida, so there are no design sketches, and they weren't drawn much in DVD packages or elsewhere, so it's true that there aren't many.
When I first saw the concept art for the bear pajamas, I was a bit surprised. It was an idea that didn't match my image of Reon, and to be honest, I initially opposed it.
Later, after hearing Kishida-san explain that “lain is afraid of her father, and when she talks to him, she wears the bear costume to protect herself from fear by turning herself into a character,” I understood, and at the same time, I learned that character design is something that is thought through in such a way.
At the time, I was still a student, and it was my first character design job, so everything was trial and error.
Well, it's still trial and error now...
