I am so not a fan of the wages American servers get paid so do not take this wrong. I think tipping culture sucks, but I will never not tip poorly. However, most restaurants if they have bartenders and bus boys require the servers to tip a percentage of their sales to the bartenders and bus boys. So, even though it is a bottle of wine that doesn't feel necessary to tip on, not tipping accordingly can cause that server to have to pay out of pocket at the end of night.
Natalia Vigil
Does Frank’s head look extra huge in this episode?? There were times I️ thought it looked like a bobble head
Jason
We need a camera on Ant too 😂
Karlina
So for example 10k bottle of wine adds 10k to the servers sales. At my old job we tip 5% of alcohol sales to the bar which would be 500 dollars. So if you have anything less than that then the server has to still give that to the bar out of their own pocket.
Karlina
So the thing is, that server more likely than not has to tip the bar tender food runners etc on their total sales. So if they don’t get shorted on a tip they still have to give a portion of their tips away so if you don’t tip on that expensive bottle of wine the server for lack of a better way of explaining it “pays” to wait on you.
Abiely Flores
I always go in expecting to tip but at the end of the day a tip is earned, thats why its called gratuity.
Ryan Brungardt
We need a Frankie fit check in some of these episodes
Emma
If someone can afford a 5k bottle of alcohol you can afford to tip the 20% all I'm sayin
Mallory Connelly
10k is 10k... i wouldn't complain about not getting 20% if im making less than minimum wage and most people give someone $7 and call it quits
Dude Guy
When Ant said "cursed" i said OUT LOUD, "it better not be a JJK shirt"...
Halley Plata
That'll take sooooo long theres so many

I got so hyped over ant shirt!!! Also attack on the titans IS A REALLY GOOD ONE!!

dont order what you cant afford to tip on. that simple.

The problem with tipping is that, yea you tipped 10Gs on your bill but if it’s not 20%, most restaurants require servers to tip out other staff based on that 20%, regardless of if that was actually tipped or not. So yes 10Gs is a lot but ultimately that server has to tip out as if they had made the 15gs or whatever 20% would have been

As a woman who works in Hospitality, I have to say, when Joe started talking about the fact that he needs to consider the fact that he was in the restaurant for 4 hours and how many tables he's taking away from the establishment for that service, was one of the hottest things ever. Also, I am in Australia and we have service charges on bills, hence making tipping completely optional.

Lets be so fr. If I'm that server and THE Jay-Z (a literal billionare) doesn't tip at least 20%.... yeah im pissed. YES, a 10k tip is great and way more than one would expect on an average night, but serving Jay-Z is not your average night and he is not your average man. If it it was some random ass person, I would be FAR less inclied to have a negative reaction to this, but like..... bro its Jay-Z. We all know he can afford a 20% tip, which is the standard. I feel like it's cheap as hell that he couldnt cough up a 20% tip.... again ITS JAY-Z!!!!!! THAT BITCH CAN AFFORD IT!

Also it depends on the restaurant and type of service. It doesn’t sound like they’re talking about a run of the mill restaurant, not with $1000+ bottles. I served at a high end Italian restaurant where we had to do the whole wine presentation process whenever anyone ordered a bottle at any price point, which takes time and training. I wasn’t just bringing a bottle and pouring into a glass at your table, I was bringing the unopened bottle, presenting it to the person who ordered it, opening it with a manual corkscrew (bane of my existence to do that with an audience staring at me), pouring a small taste first and then pouring in all the glasses - making sure not to drip or spill, and to give everyone the same pour. It was kind of a bitch cause you had to be methodical and do each step slowly, so all my other tables had to wait for whatever they needed while I did the presentation. In that case, I did put in work to serve that bottle to the table. Plus I’ve had friends who worked at the really high end fancy restaurants where people would drop thousands, and some of those restaurants actually offered decent wages (more than the state tipped wage which is $2.13/hr) and offered benefits. So they had more of a cushion in their paycheck than a lot of other places offer. Now I for sure know that’s few and far between, depending on the state you live in and the restaurant owners, so I wouldn’t encourage people to assume that’s the case. But it’s not like you’re ordering a $1000+ bottle at Olive Garden either. I think there’s always more context involved and it’s not really a one-size-fits-all kind of answer for every situation. Just be kind to your servers and put yourself in their shoes.

Yes,but in most of Europe (specifically Romania) servers also get a fix salary, they don't depend on tips so if you don't it's not that huge of an issue (you still should) . Also, ce surpriză plăcută să văd o româncă în comentarii 🥰

I’ll have to catch up on them

I don’t think he “owes us” anything either. But how often does frank say “when you get married” or “when you have kids” so like when those things happen later in his life and if the podcast is still happening, are we just going to pretend a wife and kids don’t exist? Not talking about them in detail is one thing, but literally going out of your way to AVOID saying you even have a significant other is so strange to me. He went with her to Paris, cool, I saw it on Instagram, so it’s public yeah? So what happens when he gets engaged and has a bachelor party and has a wedding and has kids and all those things that are often huge topics of discussion on the podcast, are we just going to keep pretending that that part of his life doesn’t exist? The podcast is essentially about nothing and everything at the same time. So no, it’s not about his love life, but they do talk about life experiences, and if those happen to include a significant other, Joe doesn’t have to go out of his way to avoid mentioning a gf because like you said, it’s on social media, and they’re happy. We know she exists. But you’re also entitled to your opinion :)

I can vouche for Frankie about Jenks pizza… it’s expensive and complete ass lol they get all the drunk people with it 😂

Also I disagree about the cash!!! I am a server and the best thing is walking out every night with cash in hand. Save it till the following week and go to the bank w my stack of cash. It’s my favorite

Does Joe not remember the old video where he did impersonations/accents for a whole video and he fkin killed it??!??

You do tip in Europe. I'm from Romania and it's customary to tip 10-20%. I've been to other european countries and it's mostly the same.

That's it exactly, these kind of episodes I can watch for free on YouTube. Sure it's a week behind, but I miss the entertainment that used to be provided. The bracket challenges, the games, things were a little more outrageous
Lexis Weber
i’ve been a server for 10 years and any tip is great. what makes the percentage thing an issue is the restaurants fault because most of the time we are tipping on our SALES, so the support/bar get their money regardless and so if you tip me 10% on a bill and i still have to tip out 8% of my sales, i technically just made a 2% tip on your table. which then i lost money. but i completely understand most people don’t know that and it shouldn’t be the guests problem or concern anyways. but that’s just some perspective i thought id share
Rebekah Molnar
Yeah I feel like most people don’t know you have to tip out the bussers and bartenders based on your sales for the day so if you have a 10000 dollar check it would rack up how much you’d have to tip them out
Kerry Friel
That's a disgrace America need to adjust their employment laws that's basically slave labour. All jobs no matter what should have a working minimum wage and tips should then be a bonus but shouldn't be what makes your night. You set hourly wage should be fair that tip do not mean anything to staff other than a happy bonus
Kerry Friel
Also frank joe tipping is 100% a thing in the uk ireland and most European countries it's just done very different. If the food is good and service it's like a few pound or euro on the bill. If you're in a bar it's sort of per person choice I'll buy a round and maybe tip a few pound but not every round of drinks. Also to get the bill there is a hand signal or head nod or something to the waiter as a whenever your free and have a chance can I've the bill
Kerry Friel
We were 22 tbf and were just trying to be cautious cause we knew tipping was a big thing in America and just wanted to be sure haha
Rebekah Molnar
I just miss when they would actually make special patron episodes like the drunk ones or like when frank got waxed, that’s what I signed up and spend my money for, they’re literally just regular episodes now, still love them tho and look forward to it every week but it would be nice to get some extra stuff
Kerry Friel
So I duno if only Americans will laugh at this but I'm from Ireland and went to New York. I had cash and I had a card. For the first 3 days til I met a girl from Ireland working in a bar and she told me. But bills in America come with the bill and have a line that says tip so we were leaving cash tips eg $10 tip cash and paying the bill with a card and still writing the tip on the bill too. So we were tipping in cash and on the card double tipping haha no1 questioned it or asked us. It just didn't make sense to us why a bill said tip and then overall what we were paying so we were tipping cash writing the amount of cash we left too haha
Holly Lee
Hold your horses, BRENDAN. Its March! 😂

Ant’s anime bit in the beginning he sounds so 🥺
Brendan Coulter
Can't believe no one has said it yet, but these patreon exclusives are starting to feel more like the regular episodes. "We're moving to a new studio so we can bring you guys a variety of different video approaches". Only thing we've seen so far is a bunch of grapes on a table. There was nothing wrong with the old ways... step it up fellas
Sofia Reumert
I didn't know this, that's INSANE. No one should everrrr have to pay to work!
Laurin
if you have enough money to buy 5k bottle of something then you have enough money to tip properly. also jayz is a billionaire fuck him. eat the rich.
Kristin Kirby
man mine was xXsh0elac3Xx
Mairinn
At the place I’ve worked, tip out is 5% of sales. If people bought a $20,000 bottle of wine and didn’t tip on it, I would still owe the restaurant $1000 for that sale whether I got a tip or not! For someone making minimum wage, that could devastate them completely. It’s not right, but it’s how a lot of places do it
Mairinn
The only thing I will say about tipping on the total of the bill is that a lot of times in restaurants the servers have to tip out to bartenders, kitchen, and support staff based on that server’s total sales! So if someone doesn’t tip or tips a lower percentage than what the server’s tip-out is, that server loses money out of their own pocket! There are times that servers literally pay to serve a table lol. I’m only sharing this because a lot of people don’t know! It’s a sucky system for sure though
Babby Bertie
Chris Jericho mention is wild because I was like 10 feet away from him last night and didn’t realize he was someone people knew about
Kasey Birch
I used to be a server. When you rack up a high bill and you tip like shit or not at all, the server still has to tip out (the bar and kitchen) on the total of the bill so she would be making either no money or paying out of her own pocket for you to eat/drink there. I live in Canada and I’m not sure how it works in the states but that’s how it works here.
Calista

I’m a bartender and asked my coworkers about the tipping on bottles thing. The consensus was, if you can go out and spend that you should be tipping appropriately, despite it being bottles of shit. Personally, I get not doing exactly 20%, but I’d also be salty even if it was bottles lol
nanea
stop roasting ant! he’s doing his best
Abby
Washing your hands with soap and water is much more effective! Hand sanitizer only kills Gram positive bacteria (bacteria that's easiest to kill) while hand washing will rinse off Gram negative bacteria (really bad bacteria such as E. coli). Good intuition Joe haha.

They are so mean to ant 😂

Y’all need to put some respect on Jujutsu Kaisen man

As a server I don’t care what they put me through I would never complain about 10k

I was a server/ bartender at a steakhouse for 8 years, and while yes, we live on tips and 20% is the “industry standard” and what you feel like you deserve in most situations. On the other hand, we hosted tons of large business parties/ dinners where the alcohol bill itself is thousands of dollars. I never expected 20% on a liquor bill for simply carrying wine, as you do when you serve a 3 course meal to someone. I think it’s also such a gray area sometimes.
Joscelyn
Can’t believe Santa Claus, IN was mentioned!! I live right around there and can confirm it’s 100% real lmaoooo

As a person from jersey, i only tip gas attendants if they wash my windshields or if the weather is really bad
Amanda Hayes
I can’t stand when either of them eat. Mouth noises make me cringe.
Amanda Hayes
I’m in a state where I always pump my own gas. I would not tip the attendant if it is required by law
Amanda Hayes
It depends on the alcohol. If they are mixing drinks - yes, 20%. If they are bringing bottles, 30% on meal cost.
BaileeMay
Frankie leave Joe alone you know he’d bring Nicole😂🫶🏻
Steph O
Id think maybe it is a respect thing like she doesn’t want to be spoken about or something but yeah I was definitely thinking hey dude mention your gf is ok you can still continue the bit after😂😂
Steph O
even before knowing this podcast I’ve been like Frank where for some reason the word Bitch is used to like spice up a sentence or used as an exclamation rather than actually calling someone it like it’s almost interchangeable with bro or something😂 it’s just something about that word that just adds the right amount of flair sometimes
Kat
Leave Ant alone😭 jujutsu kaisen is top tier

Wait I wanted to hear Frank explain the Matrix the Frank way
Jen Pisaniello
I've never thought about not including alcohol as part of the tip before this conversation. I generally tip on the subtotal and adjust up/down depending on the service. Also, as a New Jerseyean - never tipped a gas attendant, ever. Loving all of the food talk!
Stephanie Bloss
I work in the restaurant industry & have my whole college career! In the case of those super expensive wines & bills I would imagine (and hope) that the restaurant would include the appropriate gratuity in the bill. The customer could then tip on top of that if they pleased. Just an fyi, most people don’t know how to tip 🤣🤣 even if I have the shittiest server in the world I’m still giving at least 20% because the hourly in MI is $4 / hr. Not sure if it’s the same in NJ or NY though :-)
Brandi Moore
I disagree with your take on the kitchen staff deserving a tip out. Anywhere I’ve worked the kitchen gets paid more than minimum wage so it doesn’t make sense to have to tip them out unless the restaurant just isn’t trying to pay them fairly. Which is usually the case unfortunately.
Kendra Curnett
I’ve worked in all levels of food service/bartending/bottle service and my only two cents is that if the majority of the bill is shots or expensive bottles, I anticipate 15%-18%.. It also depends on how demanding the customer is, are they being high maintenance and low patience or are they chill?? That also plays into whether or not I’d get chapped about tip percentage. That being saiddddd 10k as a tip is genuinely a life altering tip for most service workers and shouldn’t be taken for granted. I’d be crying if I received that
Kasey

I don’t work at a restaurant where the tabs would be that outrageous.. usually 100-200 maybe 500-600 max on a really good table but I did have a woman order a $100 bottle of wine and subtract that from her total before calculating her tip

I think he has the right to keep it private. I don’t think it’s disingenuous at all. He owes us nothing, but you have the right to your opinion. :) I just follow her on social media for her food content and noticed they were dating. The podcast isn’t about his personal love life. He shares her on his instagram and regardless as long as they’re happy !!

It would be sooo cool if he got the boys into it
Jose Mendez
Umm so no drunk lady story ?
Amber Huggins
When I waitressed we had to tip our bartenders a percentage of our alcohol sales so that being said however much it was as far as alcohol he might would had to give the bartender that tip that's why the percentages do kind of matter but I get bringing bottles isn't full service like a regular restaurant.
Erica Gantea
I thought the same thing “pick your 3 favorite people” and he proceeds to take the longest pause. lol bro just say your gf. I understand wanting to keep your relationship private, but going out of your way to avoid even mentioning the person you probably spend most of your time with just feels disingenuous when you’re on a podcast talking about your life.
JH
Being from Indiana, it is very much Santa Claus lol
JH
Both of these are not good anime for beginners
Shaye Filbert
As a server: if you spend $5000 on food and then $10000 on a bottle of wine when all I did was bring it to you and ur not a big party then I expect like $1500 tip cause yes big bill but all I did was bring the bottle
Davis
Frank, sip that god damn tea in the mic one more time, I’m putting an ice pic through my fucking ear drum. Love the episode boys keep it up

brianne
wait did we ever get the drunk woman story lol
Angelina
I agree that for egregious amounts 20% seems weird but I also don't know if it would fuck over the server/bartender bc they often have to tip out 5% of sales to bussers etc. so they could owe money in some situations
Chelsea McJunkin
I didn’t realize Vince Vaughn would be on the show today at .27 seconds ranting about bathroom attendants 😂

Thinking about space and our nothingness gives me panic attacks so thanks for that ok a Friday morning boys 🙃😂 don’t know what’s wrong with me that I still watched every word

I'm from Canada I just found out that people tip our recycle guy , never would of thought that was a thing and I will not be doing it
Naomi
Answering the question before watching the video: 20-25% - if I go out it means I have more than enough to eat and drink and tip very well. I have never worked in food service and I can’t imagine having to deal with weird stingy rude ass people all day for not that much money. People lean into the “well the establishment should pay more” - well they’re not!! So polish off your wings and tip your damn servers. If I have bad enough service that I don’t wanna tip I’ll ask for a new server cuz that means it’s been BAAAAAAAD. Lol.
Sabrina Zipeto
We love Ant representing JJK 😂
Kierra
*former server* If someone gave me a $10,000 tip just for serving bottles for like 6 hours there’s no way I could complain. Expecting 20% is crazy, it’s less work in theory. That’s more than I make in 3 months at a normal job.
Vanessa Pineda
Watching Joe anxiously explain his anxiety about bathroom attendants 😂😂😂 factssss
LC
I love that you guys say British accent, like there’s just one 🤣
Erin H
The problem with not tipping based on percentage is that most servers tip out a percentage of your bill to all of the support staff. So if your bill is $1000 and the server tips out 10%, you tip $100, your server isn’t seeing any of that tip. So that server has just been paid minimum wage to serve your table, and they often make less per hour than kitchen staff (who totally deserve their tip out, but the server does too)
