The Search for Spock is one of my favorite TOS movies.

It's interesting that when this movie first came out it was not well received by fans, and I think it's because it followed Warth of Kahn and how do you do that. But as time went on it is now one of the most beloved. I think it's because the young people that didn't appreciate it in 1985 grew up had their own families and when they revisit this movie, they see what it was about, Family. Family coming together regardless of the obstacles. Although it's a Star Trek movie at its core it's a thanksgiving movie. And the stealing of the Enterprise is the greatest scene in the Star Trek franchise. I love this movie.

Part of the appeal for me, aside from the continued friendship building, is the crew being on a Klingon Bird-of-Prey on effinβ Vulcan. When the ship lands and Sarek is there and they have the Vulcan ceremonial scenes, the entirety of my Trekker body explodes. The Vulcans in this part of the movie are a deep core foundation of Spock. This type of thing runs through the movies and spin-off shows and never lets us forget that Spock is only half us, and we are only half him. Also, the end of the movie with Spock talking to the crew pretty much makes me well up with tears every time. Through 3 movies, that scene is where they essentially say that the plot doesnβt matter, their friendship does. Itβs special.
