Stripper With a System 10-14
🕑 Added 2026-02-08 20:45:21 +0000 UTCIt's here! On time, despite the snap poll ;-). For those only sorta paying attention, I shut that poll down early morning on the 7th, and the winner (Kara) only ended up showing up at the tail end of this update. So it worked out that I didn't need any sort of delay to get this out on time. At full length too, coming in at just over 15k.
I'm mostly happy with the results. There was a little bit too much time spent in characters' heads or doing exposition for me to be happy with entirely, but that's sort of just what needed to happen in this bit of the fic. They are in build up phase and I've deliberately kept the number of 'named' characters Rylia is interacting with down, since I know that list is doing to build to be ever more unwieldly as the story progresses and she summons more 'Help.' Meaning there currently just aren't a lot of people for her to interact with, if I don't want to complicate my life a ton later. That should change in the next update with both Kara and...one other you should be able to guess at after reading these chapters ;-).
I've included a map with the post this time, as relative locations of a few planets and bits of space are referenced in story. Likewise, I looked around for a version of Kara that's similar to what I was/am imagining, which is the other post image ;-). This Kara is a bit older than the teenage version we see most often, and not a front-line fighter. So I felt any of her traditional costumes/appearances didn't quite fit.
As usual, the new chapters are attached here in various formats, and the new Master Files, containing the entire story, will be up in the Pinned Post shortly. I'll also be doing some Author's Notes for the chapters after I get that done. You'll be able to find them in the comments, also as usual, though give it a bit so I can actually write them :-p. Edit 8: …nothing has “some” close… …nothing has “come” close… Edit 9: No what had her feeling… No, what had her feeling…

She's afraid of triggering the events of Mass Effect 1 early if she touches Eden's Prime. Up until the Alliance dug up the Beacon, Nazara was forced to wait. It needed a beacon, beyond the one at Virmire, and didn't know where any functional ones were. The moment the Alliance dug up the beacon on Eden's Prime, it kicked off Nazara's actions. Rylia doesn't know if the Reaper is already ready enough that, if the ruins on Eden Prime are discovered, it will kick things off early. In all honesty, she'll probably actively try to delay those ruins being found, in the hope that doing so will put off the start of the count down timer longer.

Hmmm. Kara is nice, she was definitely my second pick. I do love how she just straight up executed luthor, very deserved. I am somewhat curious why she hasn’t started laying the groundwork to dig up javik on Eden? If only for the easy access to mass effect based particle beam technology? Javik himself doesn’t really bring much to the table outside of a tactical level unless she can pull someone in that can restore the dead, but if she could do that it isn’t like she would need any of them to begin with? Scout probes looking for wrecked ships to salvage is a good idea tho

I have an nomination for a future character as the commander of Rylia's PMC. If you want to conquer a Pirate infested sh#thole of a sector of space and fight a bio-synthetic eldritch abomination, you need a guy with experience, charisma and balls so massive you need a dreadnought for each. So Kara took Luthor out and the Justice league took it badly. Yeah that feels on brand. Really was always kind of surprised that the more realistic members of the league didnt get rid of people like luthor through assasination.

Chapter 10 A/N 1: A bit of a view into Momo's headspace, which I felt we were due for. Particularly as it helps address the loaded question of 'will she bail out before the Reapers even arrive,' given only having a 5-year contract length.
