You resist an urge to steal the sword as you wrestle your thoughts and desires.
You look around and find a tall candle that's unlit. You pick it up and light it from another flickering candle. You approach the statue and sword and kneel down to place the candle beside the bunch. The bunny looks around as well but can't find a candle. He kneels next to you and both of you watch the flames flicker and dance in the night. You feel a sense of calm; the place is filled with something that wraps around both of you. You heave a sigh.
"It's been quite a long time since someone has walked through these forests." A voice makes you both jump.
You turn around and see a goat in a tattered cloak with a staff by her side. She walks over and pulls out her own candle from beneath the cloth and proceeds to light it as you did. She places the candle in front of the sword and stands up.
"You travel through here this dark hour by yourselves?" she asks in a faint and weak voice. You both nod.
She turns around, her cloak wispy in the air, "Follow me if you wish to part from this foggy hallows alive."
> Follow the old lady.
> Continue following the compass.

A random stranger in a decrepit forest? Sure I'll trust that. For all we know, there's an impassable barrier in the direction the compass points. It points to a destination, not a path, after all.

So, I'm pretty sure the compass will get us where we need to go, but I'm also pretty sure it'll get us there regardless of the danger the along the way. Lets follow the lady for now.
