Discussion: S01 E02 Simon Petrikov

Took me a while to connect that this was taking place in the universe of adventure time in the time of ice king being turned back to Simon but it was so satisfying when it all connected. I love how they are focusing on the loneliness he feels, how disconnected he is from the colorful and explorative world he’s not a participant of, and his regret with the Fionna and Cake books and how people only see him as that. It makes Simon such a complex character and it makes me want to know every aspect of his life. Then it was fun seeing the adult Finn with his bearded design. The comparisons to Martin with his approach to solutions is so uncanny but fitting. We also see the evil goose from distant lands make an appearance. Also PB and Marci living their best lives but that phone call was so heartbreaking. Then in the end we have the cake cat entering the portal that Simon opens up. This causes the time room to reappear and adds a new button to the control which could link to the Season 10 finale where we saw Simon talking with prismo. Man I love the adult tone, darker action, and just this crazy sense of surrealism. I’m in love with it all and this feels like it can potentially fix so much of the problems I’ve had with the series and even surpass it. I’ll calm down but just shows I’m excited for it! 9/10
Also should I don’t mind going 1ep a day. It feels comforting and I can digest and explain more. I love waiting for the next day and that build up. But if 2 or so is better than I can try that.

Shiit yeah. I was mainly saying after the S10 finale and the fern stuff it seemed he was at peace and getting better. But yeah he stated he had trouble when he left. That also makes sense. The thrill of not caring if you die or not is both freeing but also saddening. And also shows how one gets consumed by the death of someone if they fail to move on and accept it. Powerful. Excited to see how things develop!

What's worse is that we know from together again, that he doesn't really get better cos he admits he never recovered from Jake's death and I think the reason he kept adventuring was so that he would die quicker so he could see Jake again because Finn doesn't really value his life anymore.

It is. It’s sad since I felt he was on a good path after everything had happened. Developing a lot of the habits and mindset of Martin was so shocking to me. And then his way to cope? Let’s do adventures!!!

Yeah it kinda depressing that after Jake's death finn regressed to be similar to martin
