052 - 2015 THR Actress Roundtable (EXCURSION - Turbulent Brilliance)
🕑 Added 2025-09-19 07:00:05 +0000 UTCAs voted on by you the Patreon Garys, this month's excursion is a return to 2015 and one of our favorite subjects: The Hollywood Reporter's Actress Roundtable! We unpack the lineup of 8 (EIGHT!!) actresses and their projects, the group's invocation of Toni Collette, diverge into more Mike Nichols talk, discuss our thoughts on the eventual Best Actress lineup, and much more!

Fun fact: Jane Fonda's workout tapes were actually activism in disguise! They were owned by a PAC and she funnelled all the profits ($10M!) to leftist causes and Democratic election campaigns.

I adore y'all, and I am a dyed-on-the-wool Midwesterner. Raised in MN, educated in IA, and in Chicago since the mid-90s. Happily molted any passive-aggressive-ness years ago. You are wrong about Cate Blanchett being mean. She 'gives people the business', in the same way British folks take the piss out of each other. Teasing as a form of rapport.
